Here is a solution for your Navigator (AKA passenger) to keep maps organized and ready for use.

I designed this map holder for my Navigator (and wife) because local area maps and guides were always accumulating on our adventures and ending up on the top of the dashboard because there was no place to put them.

Installation is easy since it slides over the plastic at the end of the center console in the foot well.

I designed this part using FreeCAD and printed with PETG plastic using my Prusa MK3S 3D printer. If you are curious about the development of this concept, you can check out my build thread.

Just slip behind the panel? No other fasteners?

    Do the maps slide out?

No fasteners needed. The mount is angled slightly to keep the maps in place.

Cool design and adds some functionality back.

But it's just friction keeping it from falling? How many units of MAP can it hold before sliding off?

It holds about 8 maps. It fits really really tight so it doesn't slide off unless you really pull down on it. I suppose some gorilla tape on the back side of the console could be added to make it extra secure.

Note: You can't see the tape when this is installed as shown above. The tape is on the inside of the console plastic.

Does the Toyota plastic slip into the thin slot? Or behind it?
Wondering if a closed off version would be possible, I have no need for maps, but thinking of a thin, slim phone pocket

The Toyota console plastic is pinched by the thin slot. This map holder is overkill for a phone. I think a cell phone holder would be pretty easy to make. What size opening would you need just for a cell phone (LxWxH)?

That's a novel concept. I usually keep an file folder jammed between pass seat and console to collect the campground paraphernalia, but that solution looks interesting.

Good concept that can be useful for holding things other than maps. But I think price might be holding people back.

Last year when my printer needed repair$, I tried to outsource printing some parts and learned that it would cost more to get the parts printed than what I was charging. So I bought a second printer.

Here's a quote from a local 3D print shop that I got today:
    upload_2023-4-20_18-40-58.jpg

And printing costs are only part of it; there's packing materials, Etsy fees, shipping fees, taxes, and the most precious commodity (Time).

So yeah, my custom 3D parts are expensive.

I'm not saying you're charging too much or price is not fair. I'm sure it's fair, given the time you have to put in.

I'm saying, in the Amazon.com and HF world, this might be past the threshold of what most people are willing to pay for this kind of speciality part. In other words, not sure if the market is there. But hope I'm wrong!
