Just saw new posts in regards to this guy. I did't pull trigger on wednesday for these wheels and then was pissed at myself the next day. He even sent me pics of wheels on Toyoyanation website. Told me "No problem. I'm going to be selling the truck their on and it helps me sell it faster at a lower price if I don't have the rims on it. With shipping it's going to be $380 total. WOW

I'll second the being pissed off the next day; After posting the link to TW I thought of how stupid I was for not buying them myself and selling them for a couple extra bucks on CL. The guy seemed slightly legit when I sent him a reply PM letting him know I had purchased a set already, to which he responded with "No worries, figured I would give you dibs as you were next in line". Most scammers don't take the time to do follow-ups with people that aren't interested. This guy needs to be tracked down ASAP..makes me feel sick for having posted the link

Hey, look at this way, the more people that are aware of it the better because it will get the word out for more people to be aware of this guy and not too mention, a good lesson to keep an eye out for other scams out there before rushing into a sale. This is a good reminder to always do a little background checking before rushing into purchasing something from an unknown individual over the interenet to verify that they are legit and are not going to rip you off.

To you guy's that got taken, keep on pursuing getting your money back. Eventually the guy will get caught and punished for his mistakes.

    My $.02C.

Yeah he'll get his.. I'm not worried about that.. He admitted that he's a slimeball and that he can't sleep at night.. he even said that his girlfriend thinks he's a loser and most of the time he can't perform in bed.. Maybe he took my $100 to fill his viagra prescription... What a douche.

Well I wasn't the guy involved with your RBs, but for the record I ONLY accept money orders. They are fairly secure. I don't do business with paypal becaue of their blatant anti-gun policies (they will actually REFUSE to fund transactions if they think a firearm is involved!)

I don't care if I miss out on a sale or two because of it - I've sold at least 20 items online accepting only money orders and haven't had a problem yet.

For converstion sake. What happens if someone sends a money order and you never send the item? Is the buyer screwed? I hate paypal myself but so many buyers feel better with it, so I keep using it.

So how do we get the "minimum post count before selling" thing going? What has to be done? I think this really has to be done.

You cant even access the buy/sell/trade section without 30 posts on xr-underground. I think not being able to sell is cool, but I don think you should be able to buy. I dont want to have to create an account, make 30 B.S. posts, just so I can watch for a URD pulley for my S/C. But I guess it does keep good deals withing the forum community! I do wish I still lived in SD. My wife was ripped off there shortly before we moved, but they found the guy and arrested him and we got our money back. Good luck.

i hate the whole minimum post thing. I rarely make posts on this site so it will take me a while to get to a predetermined quota. that is why i hate xr-underground, i can't shop because I don't have a account with more than 30 posts. since i don't have an xrunner why start an account
But just like bcroach said it is not hard to make 30 pointless post to get access if you want to scam someone out of money. It is just to inconvenient for me to spend money lol.

This doesn't seem like a realistic fix.. It's a pesky speed bump at best and will undoubtedly inconvenience honest sellers 100 times for every 1 time it discourages a scammer.. There is no solution to dishonesty, but we can all learn from this experience and benefit from a little due diligence in future transactions.

The ONLY real solution is to set up a Moderator middle man who performs a holding function for funds between transactions. This would completely eliminate ALL scamming immediately, but unfortunately add a layer of complication to all sales. This feature could be available as an option for all transactions where Paypal is not available or it could be mandated for all such transactions.

I don't actually see this happening but it is the only real solution. If you had taken 10 seconds to check out the scammer's profile, he's been a member since last may and therefore the 30 post minimum wouldn't have saved anyone. He obviously doesn't mind doing a little foundation building before getting his scams going so do yourselves a favor and forget the minimum post idea.

    My $.02.

They're made out to a specific person, and they're trackable so it's pretty safe. If I'm selling a gun, I make the buyer send me a copy of the driver's license which tends to discourage scammers. I have thousands of posts on the gun forums I frequent, so people tend to trust me there. :D

Also, mail fraud is a federal offense, made that much easier to track/prosecute if you use a USPS money order. Tends to put the buyer and seller more at ease. It's always a gamble though...you have to be choosy and careful, especially on sites like CL.

You have a point sir. I think, a better fix is going with your gut feeling and avoid money-wiring! Like people have said before, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

I have literally bought & sold hundreds of items on ebay, cl, here and other forums. Very expensive to not so expensive items & no scams thankfully.
Paid with paypal or in person with cash only.
As a seller, I only take cash or pp.

Just recently I bought from someone here with low post count, paid w/ pp, talked on the phone, it was a super smooth transaction.
I have had 2 sellers on 2 different occassions send parts ($25-$300) on their dime wanting me to be happy then send them $$.
Complete strangers on forums & I was a low post count member.

Sorry this has happened to those here who were scammed,
but since the thread has gone off in a different direction wanted to say
I do not support a minimum post count or moderator escrow thing at all.
