Hi Tacoma Peeps, it's been a while since I've been here! I ended up trading in my Tacoma for a Ram 1500 because we also purchased a 29 foot travel trailer. Loved the Tacoma, but we absolutely love the RV life.

Anyways, after moving to Texas, I found a box of Tacoma parts that I wanted to sell. I am in the San Antonio area if anyone wants to do a local pickup.

Good deals! Good luck with your Dodge. Only issues I've heard with the new Dodge trucks are transmission issues. My son-in-law works for the military and he says there's a 5-6 week wait for repairs due to the number of issues they are having. Hoping you avoid those issues and enjoy your new truck/camper!! Congrats!!

No issues with my Ram after 16K miles in a year (half of it was towing 7K pounds). Other than having a harder time parking in a garage or downtown, I have been very impressed with the new truck. Loads of power, very smooth transmission, and just as good gas mileage as both of my Tacoma's.

I won't lie tho...I was very hesitant to look at anything other than a Tundra. So I did a lot of research because I had heard issues with basically all of the big-name trucks. It also did not help that my next-door neighbor (in 2018) had a fairly new Chevy Silverado that died only a few thousand miles after the powertrain warranty was up. And I mean died instantly. It just stopped working and the engine needed to be replaced. Turns out that that Silverado generation has many issues of this happening around the 60K-80K mark due to their cylinder deactivation tech at that time. Chevy would not help him and he ended up trading in a dead truck for $15K less than it was worth the week before. Obviously, that nixed Chevy/GMCs from my choices.

So it was between Ford lineup that we knew was coming out with a new model the following year, an ancient Tundra lineup with no refresh in site (at the time), or a new Ram lineup that was winning all sorts of awards.

While researching, I found out that in 2009 Ram and Dodge formally separated into their own divisions (still under FCA tho)...so they were no longer managed by Dodge. When they parted, Ram set out to improve their brand so they could not only catch up to GMC/Chevy & Ford, but become a real threat to them. That included going with a proven 8-speed transmission that can handle a lot more power than any Ram truck can hope to produce. To illustrate, I am using the same transmission that the Hellcat-powered TRX is using. So I hope that your son-in-law isn't stuck with the older model Dodges...those are the ones with the known transmission issues.

I do have to say that I miss this community tho. There is so much more innovation for customization due to the bigger community involvement like we see here and in the Jeep world. You guys have rocked!
