jayerah9696, hmmm... looks like a return/re-sale or something. Not at all typical of the usual top quality from BirdDawg. I would give them a chance to make it right, even though it's a pia. You could re-finish it, but you'll remember that every time you look at it.

Or, it could be an opportunity to color match it.

I think color matching it matte silver to match the vent surrounds and center console would look really sharp.

Are these anodized or powder coated? It looks like a failed anodizing in the photos but can't tell...

If it were me, Id say run it... mount enough stuff to it and you'll never see it anyway!

My Tech Deck is anodized - it looks like the one pictured above is as well.

I've had an iPad, cell phone mount, and CB mic holder on mine for almost two years with zero issues.

HD, it has the backing plate. I epoxied it in place per the instructions. My only gripe is you have to remove the TD to remove the radio. My RTT interferes with my OEM sat radio antenna's reception on the roof, so I mounted a XM puck on my ARB bull bar. I had to remove everything to plug in the new antenna cable on the back of the radio. It's a bit of a PITA. The threads on the aluminum backing plate were definitely wearing out, but I hit the threads of the steel allen head bolts with some light duty Threadlocker - it's held up fine.

I'm not sure exactly what's damaged, but you might be able to drill new holes and install a set of small nutserts in the backing plate.

I decided to paint it black. I'm happy with it. BirdDawg replied and said they had a recent bad batch but only 1 in 100 customers were complaining. He gave me three options and I took the $20 refund and keep it as is. I'm happy and no hard feelings..I'm hoping they get some rear view mirror risers in soon! Thank you for the feedback and suggestions!

The mirror riser is a great product. I mounted two 1" RAM balls on it as well. I keep my hardwired Garmin and Bad Elf GPS units mounted to it 24/7. They tuck under/behind the mirror when not in use. It's definitely one of my favorite interior modifications on the truck.

    @Tbird

If I am just wanting to get a Techdeck to mount HAM and a phone mount would the regular version or the HD version be needed?

All I would mount on it would be a phone and a HAM radio face... now looking at the HAM radios, not so sure lol

Getting an iPad at the end of the month but will do the RAM mount that mounts to the seat bolts so that both myself and passenger can use it when needed.

Good to know! May have to see how I like having an iPad up there. My worry would be on the trails and it putting stress on it and such bouncing up and down.

Yea I can see that... may not be needed at all on some of the harder things, so just normal off road trails should give it no issue.

Which iPad do you run? I was looking at the bigger one for the bigger screen size for maps and ease of use.

I was looking at the iPad Air 2 with the 9.7" screen and 32GB, don't see a big need for the Pro version of it for what I would use it for. But good to know that the regular Tech deck would support it.

Diamondback Cover 270. Scan Gauge II, Tech Deck on order
Hi all. I've been a long time lurker here. I just ordered a Tech Deck and 3 ball mounts last night. Can't wait to get this in so I have somewhere to mount my phone, gps etc.. Still have to decide what mounts to get. Was thinking about the magnetic mount that Loaded Taco is using but I also read that magnets may not be good for the electronics longer term. Thoughts?

Welcome Rob! A strong magnetic field can wipe data on spinning disc or SSD so a very valid question.

When I mounted my previous Motorola phone to the magnetic mount, same mount as Loaded Taco is using, the screen would shrink to quarter size. Took me awhile to find out why turns out Motorola offers a magnetic case with a small window in it. The phone has a sensor in it that detects the magnetic field and when it senses it decreases the screen size to fit in the window on the case. Once I found the auto installed phone case app and deleted it all was fine. The magnets in those cases are fairly strong so my thought is no, there should be no long term ill effects.

I say previous phone because when I washed it in the washing machine a couple of weeks ago it failed. Damn thing couldn't handle a little water, soap, and agitation. Sensitive little bastage.

Out of all my mounts I really like the magnetic phone mount the best and use it the most of course. One handed slap her on there and done.
