Agreed. The rating system sounds like the best bet. It's a calculated risk when you buy anything site unseen anyway. We can't protect everyone.

And the "Paypal" fees are credit card fees, just like if we all had a brick and mortar accepting credit cards. If someone is naive enough to send money to someone they don't know via a gift purchase they deserve what they get.

 

I agree with two possible ideas.

1. No sales of any kind until you have reached xx number of posts (set by @tcBob )
2. ANY sales that are asked to be sent as gift could go through a proxy like mentioned.

I'd change number 2 to say, that no purchases should be allowed to be sent as a gift. Users are cheating the system when they send money as a gift for a legitimate purchase.

 

I'm on board for this. The only time I send as a gift is if I've met the person before and they are local and I'm meeting up with them for the item. Basically the same as cash. Even then, half the time I'll just throw in the extra 3% just in case they decide the shady life is for them. Sending stuff as a gift is nice and all, but CYOA at all times, people.

I don't know if it was the same guy because I deleted the messages awhile back, but some guy I was trying to buy headlights from on here did the same shit, said send it to me as a gift so we don't have to lose 2$ in fees. That made me think twice and said uhhh that sounds sketchy as hell, I'm not doing that. Probably same person.. who knows.
