Never had issues yet with gas door. I have it lubricated at every maintenance and when I fill up I always make sure the plastic cap holder is turned a bit out of the so it will not get wedged between the door and cause it to bend. I would also add that this should be done as part of lubrication of door, latches and hinges at the dealer as it is part of their maintenance schedule. just saying.

Well it doesn't get much rustier here. If owners would take a minute, and lubricate theses doors once a year instead of always changing their oil, there would never be a problem with bent gas doors.

Poor design of not, these doors are are the same as my tundra had over 20 years ago. They just require some maintenance/lube like tail gate latches. You learn to grease them if you notice their getting sticky.

The bottom of hinge has already broken- now the door closes. Looking at replacing- at least thinking about it.

45 years in and I've never performed maintenance on a fuel door. Have a 2016 where closing has become worse with each fill-up. My neighbor has the same truck and I noticed last week his fuel door is bent out of shape.

I agree, the least they could do is add lubing it to the maintenance chart, or it will bend.

while adding it to the chart may be helpful, I think they should be lubed as part of "pre delivery" (our Honda's was, and the door hinge is near identical). That said it shouldn't take much thought to clean a d lubricate a hinge that is stiff...

They should make the hinge like the old square bodies chevys, super simple, no maintenance.

Closing in on 4 years of ownership on my 2020 and it happened to me. Searched and found this thread. Bent it back and used white lithium. It's better and will make this part of the daily maintenance. Who knew?

I get mine a shot of silicone spray every oil change. I’ve been doing that to the hinges on the FJ since 2008 zero problems

Does not need to be daily. White lithium lasts for 6-12 months. My door will shut with one finger.

Lack of preventative maintenance and neglect……not a design issue.

    Ok
The same designed door on my 2008 FJ
I lube it every oil change
It’s not had a single issue
Opens and closes smoothly, no issues

it’s all about the maintenance or lack there of. But you’re certainly welcome to your ideas….

it is a simple job of lubricating the hinge. I use silicon grease. Now, that said, Toyota should have done this during production, or pre-delivery inspection. Our 2024 Honda has the same design hinge, however, when it was delivered, there was a heavy coat of silicon grease on the hinge, and it moves freely 10 months later.....Toyota, take note..

Finally replaced my piano wire fuel door, leaving it black. And yes, to all the fuel door engineers who claim this is a flawless design, I lubed it…..even though I shouldn’t have to.
