I took my fuel door lock off the truck to clean it. In the process I managed to remove the plastic "flag" and I need to know how it is oriented on the lock. I've attached some photos below. If somebody could help me with this I'd really appreciate it.

    Photo 1:

When I assemble the flag to the lock as shown in the above photo and then insert the assembly into the fuel door, the flag prevents me from closing the fuel door.

If I remount the flag 180 degrees from that shown in Photo 1, then the key will not turn the lock. Photo 2 below is another view of the lock. I can't push the flag any farther in than as shown.

Photo 3 below shows the inside end of the lock. I think the flag should be below the metal bar to prevent it from falling off, but something is preventing it from going in any farther.

In Photo 4 below, the lock is actually turned upside down so you can see the ends of the spring. Photo 4 is how it looks just before I put the flag back on. I think maybe the ends of the spring have something to do with holding the flag on the lock. It could also be that maybe when I was fiddling with it a part flew off unnoticed, but I don't think so.

What do I need to do to assemble the lock so that the flag won't fall off???

I would like to get this problem resolved by the end of Saturday, September 10 and I welcome any ideas on how to reassemble the lock and flag.

Well, I figured it out. :bananadance:

Assume that when the lock is installed in the fuel door, the 12:00 position is at the top. Then:

I removed the spring and then I set the flag to the 12:00 position (straight up). The flag then seated all the way into the lock cylinder, and I could move the spring back and forth between the 12:00 position and the 9:00 position with my finger.

Next, while holding the flag all the way into the cylinder and at the 12:00 position I put the spring over the flag. I left the spring's hooked ends unhooked and riding on the cylinder.

Then I used a small (very small) flathead screwdriver to move the hooks (one at a time) to the positions shown in Photo 4 in my original post. When I was done the flag was at the 12:00 position and I could move the flag with my finger, against the spring tension, about 90 degrees to the 9:00 position. When I let go, the spring would return the flag to the 12:00 position. I could also insert the key and turn it along with the flag to the 9:00 position. The spring's hooks should hook around the flag.

It only took me an hour to figure that one out :smack:.

This video was the only one I could find, and it did help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw40xq-s_xE
