Ok so is this @#&$ true? People saying premium octane is increasing the performance in their truck and there is a noticeable power difference.......

The performance increase is a little more predictable shifting in my experience. I run Marathon 89 exclusively and do so for that reason.

Regular 87 Octane gasoline has more heat energy, BTUs, than Premium gasoline so in that respect, Reg should give better mpg than Premium in an engine which requires 87 octane gasoline. Simply stated, Premium gasoline offers no advantage in a Regular fuel engine and using it is just throwing money away.

    Not without tuning.

Just did this experiment for the last month to see if there was any difference for the truck stock. At stock, 91 will not give you any advantages and in my own testing made the truck get less MPG and run worse then 87. If you are planing to do something like OVTune, then the 91 will have a lot of power advantages over stock 87 and some MPG boost but that is still up for debate at the moment.

My boy told me before I bought the lift kit, rims, and tires, "if you're worried about fuel economy, don't lift your truck"

I was like fuel who? lol

Not a complaint just an observation...my 4.7 4Runner with AWD averages 16.5 my Tacoma is around 17-18 so far. With that said i didn’t buy the Tacoma for MPGs and will never complain about it. Wishful thinking...4.7 in a Tacoma with part time 4wheel drive estimated 18mpg with a minimum of 2 new rear tires per year haha.

Toyota doesn’t claim anything. They run the vehicles through a standardized test that among other things includes almost constant speed changes. Establish a reasonable speed (not 75+ mph) and maintain it and you can do much better than the test. Establish the most efficient speed (~60 mph) and you can blow the doors off the test.

Averaged less than 14mpg from Phoenix to Sedona no faster than 75mph. The lift doesn’t help but then again didn’t expect to see great numbers.

No lift super stock 19 OR 4x4 automatic averaging 21 mpg with mixed city and highway driving. I didn’t buy the truck for it’s mpgs I knew f150s can get better milage my brother in law has a few extra miles per gallon on me but his drive way is bigger and I wanted more style and better resale value.

Don’t know if anyone got back to you on this, but S6 is not equivalent to D. Rather, any time you’re in S mode, all transmission learning is no longer applicable, so “shift points” are standard stock... makes some difference.

Always makes me cringe to see people post a pic like this and claim they get 23mpg. I think every time I drive the truck it tells me I got 21-24mpg for the trip. Thats not accurate. May last two tanks hand calculated: 87oct: 19.89mpg and 89oct: 20.67mpg.

2016 DCLB OR 4x4 with hi-liner shell on it. With racks on top, like 18.5 mpg. Without racks (generally means road trips on highway), closer to 20.

But I didn't buy it expecting good mpg's. It's a truck. If worried about fuel costs, compact cars are the way to go.

Recalculated by hand what my mileage is. 17.9l/100km OR 13.4 MPG which is outrageous. No mods, no lift, no roof racks, nothing. Just winter gas and god knows what else. I probably drive like shit and there's lots of start and stop in my town, hills to get just about anywhere.

15.9 mpg... consistent over the 2 tanks that I have owned it. Granted winter, winter gas...

I had a FBO and tuned Sierra 5.3 4x4 that made 360whp that got 15.5 all day long and ran high 13’s....

Hopefully this gets better ... planning to level and add bigger tires

Sorry to say, mileage probably will not get better with larger tires. More mass for the crankshaft to spin and a reduction in the overall gear ratio. More work for the engine to reach higher rpms and to accelerate.

1500 kms on mine, so far getting between 11-14 L/100, I think around 17-21 MPG. All stock, been consistently around -12 Celsius the last few weeks since I brought it home. Pretty level commute of 17km each way. Run around 80kph/ 50 mph whole way. DCLB Sport

Edit, was getting basically the same mileage in 07 DCLB Sport with 2” lift, cap, and 265/70/17 and spidertrax on stock wheels.

My MPG has been too all over the map lately to even vote in the poll. It's weird.

I'll routinely get 20+ around town (no freeway), but then I'll get enough other trips where the mileage is randomly much lower. I usually end up around ~17mpg, almost entirely city.
