That's too much....your tire wear will be affected.

At 40psi it absolutely will not.

I've got 30+ years of experience with this.

may have been said. but winter gas also maybe a player. i know it’s hurting me some. i need to do new spark plugs as well. I don’t have a lift or bumpers or anything. other than a bed mat. that weighs a good 90 or 100 pounds.

and thats close to what i’m getting a tank. i have 265/75R16, but i looked on line and i’m off by 2mph from the stock tires, which i think makes it right on. i read that the speedo if off buy 2 or 3mph stock. (could be wrong) i’m going to do a gps read tomorrow and see.

Overinflated tires are a cause of irregular tire wear.

40 is over inflation on stock, and larger tires.

I am sorry, but you are 100% wrong on this one.

I've been "overinflating" my tires for 10 years longer than you have been alive, over 750,000 miles, and I have NEVER ONCE worn out a tire in the center before the edges.

And larger tires than stock are often higher load ranges that can be properly inflated at 2-3x the "recommended" pressures.

Funny because I've seen it. I'm not sure you understand the idea of having the right pressure...it's about contact patch. It makes a lot less of a difference on little 2wd tires. I'm talking man sized tires.

i kinda agre 40 is over kill for stock 2nd gens. if i had lift front bumper and winch, i would put 38 or 40 in the front and do a chalk test. with all the added weight 40 maybe ok in the front only.

    I think i’m running 34 front and 32 rear with 265/75r16 terra’s.

I've read that the 6 speed manual gets al little worse mileage but Damn!!! I have the 6" lift, ARB bumper & 315/75 BFG MT tires....average 17 to 17.5 mpg consistantly. But I accelerate like Grandma & stay below 60 mph on the Interstate.

Thanks for this information. This actually changes my fuel economy numbers a little. The improvement is still the same, but I was over-estimating the number of gallons used, based on the size of the tank. I was actually getting 15.42 MPG with 32 psi. At 40 psi, it went up to 15.98 MPG.

Regarding the 40 psi and over-inflation... I'll try to do a chalk line test this weekend and post the results of that. I lean towards thinking 40 is okay for Load Range E tires, but who knows....

Size of tank??? Milage is simply miles driven divided by gallons to top off. That is what you burned to get there. Thus miles per gallon. What is left in the tank is simply freight and not part of the consumption formula. Bet your milage figures improve based on this.

And remember that your mileage on the odometer will be off with your bigger tires. I use the Mobimileage App (it's FREE) on my Iphone to get an accurate reading on miles per tank....the next time you fill up, you punch in the gallons & it does all the figuring for you.

I understand this, but I was not paying attention to the number of gallons at the pump. Rather, I was basing my calculations on a 22gal tank, and 3gal remaining when the light comes on, resulting in 19gal being used. The formula remains the same, the numbers just slid on the scale a bit.

And I did take into account the odometer being off by 7.2%.

Im at my wits end with this i used to push 350 to a tank now im lucky if i get 250... Im thinking its time to change the spark plugs but any other recommendations id love to hear them..

i have a 2013 4WD V6 TRD Sport and the door sticker says 29 PSI but the stock tires say 44 PSI max. unsure about the load rating on these but given the 44 PSI i'm guessing that's between B and C. I actually haven't checked the actual tire pressures though.

what is the best pressure to go with to get good gas mileage and performance overall? i don't really haul heavy loads so maybe like 34 or 35??

Miles traveled divided by gallons on the pump when it clicks off is the only way to do it, and even then that's only if the previous fill wasn't a partial (though there's ways to properly compute that). Anything else is speculation or poor math.

That fuel light could get you one of these days. I used to run until the light came on every time. Sometimes it would light up at 16 gallons, more often at 17; once it came on at 18.2 gallons. Truck literally died at 18.5. It went 4.7 miles on that light with my light foot. Thank the good lord it did so literally as I got to the station. 21 gallon tank my butt. It probably earns my truck the distinction of one of very few 6 speed 4x4s (or the only one?) to pass 440 miles on a tank. Don't try it yourself though! :p

It's just more smart all around to refill before 300. Keep at least 5-6 usable gallons just in case it's really needed.
