When i said very much testing wasnt done i was referring strictly to the air dam ;o. I was mostly skimming the article you linked and it seems they only test on a Dyno? You cant get any data as for MPG to get any data on the air dam it would have to be real world driving and even then so many variables. My own experience the air dam hasnt really made a difference. But that being said it could make one for someone else

All testing is dyno. However, their idea of dyno testing and our idea of dyno testing is much different. Their dyno testing is very complex and actually comes close to real world driving at 55 mph.
I have left the air dam on for now. I could see how it could give a few tenths but not much more than that.

@t0mf I just played a game using that little economy bar that changes depending on MPGs at that moment.... try to keep the bars at max the whole time you're driving. It's interesting to see how sensitive the truck is when it comes to your driving habits.

Something I thought was quite interesting with mileage..... In my current configuration I'm getting around 18mpg combined driving. I can milk it and get it in the 20s.

We drove out west last year and got terrible mileage from Dallas to Albuquerque.... like 14-15mpgs! Now, we were driving into the wind, doing ~80 (whatever the speed limit was) and it's a gradual elevation change upwards and especially going through the Llano Estacado. Now, when we drove around in the mountains doing the Enchanted Circle Loop, we were easily getting in the 20sMPGs! Mind you the speed was around 55 MPH, but still that was up and down hills.

    That surprised me.

Drove my 11 from Wichita to Kansas City to pick up a buddy, then headed up to Sioux Falls and across South Dakota on I-90. Speed limit is 80, I drove 80. Got 17.9mpg.

In the Black Hills doing 60mph I was getting like 23. I think even in hilly terrain the inclines and declines cancel out.

That said, in October my wife and I drove to San Diego in a rented altima and were getting 40mpg average until we drove south out of Vegas on I-15. We were only getting 22... I thought we had a fuel leak.

My '17 DCSB V6 4x4 gets me about 18-19MPG average for my daily driving, but then my trip to/from work is relatively short. 8.5 miles with about 7 being on the freeway. Not enough distance to really let it settle in.

The truck was new in August 2017. The first week of October, I drove it down to South Padre Island from Austin, and rated 21.7MPG for the whole trip... so it WILL do better than my normal daily driving.

Now that it's at about 8000 miles, it seems to me that it's broken in better. I'd suspect a similar trip would get better economy.

Towing my 2400lb pop-up camper about 2500 miles averaged about 15MPG, too. That's not too bad, IMHO.

*UPDATE: On my way to work today I was half way and was getting about 18.7 mpg and thought oh what the hell the truck has 700 or so miles on it lets put it into S to try out the shifting. I was doing 70 up a gradual incline on the highway and it was in 4th gear.... I quickly shifted it into 5th and then 6th when it leveled out and RIGHT AWAY I saw the current mpg gauge climb, no ECT just personal gear management. I ended up getting 19.4 mpg on my drive to work where its usually 18.5 or less. More updates to come going to try to beat my going home mpg that is usually 20.5 or less tonight lets see how this works out guys! :headbang:

I'm assuming you're referring to me - One, I specifically said it's nothing scientific and that it's what I gathered from MPG threads. Two, maybe actually DO read more posts in this thread and others, because almost every time someone posts good MPG numbers, it's a Sport or SR5 (vs bad MPG tends to be reported by OR owners). That doesn't mean it's the case for everyone. I can get shit MPG in my sport too, if I'm not careful.

Another difference, as it relates to MPG is, EPA used to only test with E0; it now tests with both E0 and E10.

Dumb question, how do you get miles to the gallon on Tacoma screen or cluster?

No need to lie here. Got this mpg for my tank average. Yes I drive a 2.7 with stock tires and yes I drove like a granny doing 65-70 mph freeway for my work week.

Best fuel mileage I have gotten so far is 27.8 with the cruise set to 65 mph. If I go faster like 70-75 is go goes down a little ..
