This happened to my 2010 under warranty and it took some complaining to get them to replace it. It begins rusting inside the hinge and then binds enough to bend the hinge causing the rubbing. They first blamed it on me and I assured them that I have opening fuel filler doors for over 20 years now and have never had this problem before. Some simple plastic bushings would prevent this. Keep it lubed and it won't happen again. My biggest complaint with the truck...not bad.

I didn't hesitate in saying schedule it.
Seeing some of the things people are doing and the time it takes, $97 for everything was a bargain.

This just started happening on my 09. It's not even flush with the side of my truck anymore. Need to bend the hinge ASAP.

Was happening on my 2011. The door was binding because it could not actuate the hinge due to rust buildup. I ended up spraying out the hinge with WD40 to knock all the rust out (a ton of rust came out), then hit it with white lithium grease. No issues now. I relube it ever couple of months. Still bullshit that this happens on a 30k+ dollar truck.

here's what mine looks like... lower hinge was catching, and i used the dremel to trim a bit on the right side... then hit it with some dupont spray/wax. maybe i'll pick up some touch up paint later...

I don't know why it was bent/rusted at the bottom, maybe the catching bent it eventually?!?

Need to keep the hinges lubed up. They dry out and the hing catches bending the metal.

Mine just started doing this today, too. On a 3 year old 2013 with 26,000 miles. Funny thing is that it doesn't seem to be rust/corrosion... I think it has to do with the leer cap that I just put on the truck the other day. I think the weight is somehow slightly bending/bulging the fender metal to the point that it rubs the fuel door when it opens. Crazy that this could happen.

i was going to drill the rivets but the truck got side swiped out in front of my house. luckilly from the carnage we figured out it was a silver toyota, with a bug guard and i found him in my neighborhood.

got me all the way up to the fuel door so ill see what the body shop does about it.

My 2005 does it as well. Has the paint off. If I pull out on gas door when opening it doesn't rub. I don't have any rust, trying to gradually bend it, rather rub than pry the damn thing right off.

Yes very crazy. I would never think that possible but I guess so. I love these trucks but there is some cheap steel being used to build them (frames rust, flimsy tailgate etc)...

My tailgate is like a boomerang. But when I go to sell it people don't seem to care, so either do I.

Thanks for the comment. Meanwhile the fuel spout access door on my 2011 fell of and on the door on a 2009 my wife drives one of the 2 hinges broke. I found out too late that those hinges have to be regularly lubed, because road salt and similar stuff easily splashes on these hinges. The funny thing is that in the maintenance check off list for the regular service intervals "LUBE ALL HINGES" is always checked off but those 2 are never actually lubed.
Corroded not lubed hinges break easily especially because they are very flimsy to start with.

After about 10 years mine was flexing a little bit and rubbing due to the hinge binding. I hit the hinge with silicone spray and all is good again.

Yes, lube is the answer, and that I discovered after both hinges broke due to seizing.
