    Hey ya'll,

I have a 2020 Tacoma SR5 4X2. Less than 52,000 miles, barely 4 years old. Well taken care of (babied). I ultimately got a CEL. Took it in (twice) and they got an EVAP code, and finally found that the Fuel Filler Neck is the leak and said I need to replace AND it's not covered under Emissions 60,000 5yr warranty or anything.

Any one else have this happen and get them to cover this? I haven't even changed pads on this and NEVER before had to change one on any other car, much older.

How hard to do, any tips?

You tried replacing the gas cap and clicking it 3+ times?

Yes, with an OEM. That was their first diagnosis. Then another EVAP test and they looked behind the pocket and found the Filler Neck leaking the "smoke" during the test. Cool thing now, they provide video of it. So it is definitely leaking and I can smell the gas.

You might try a junkyard/salvaged filler neck for the tank as a replacement. I imagine they're all the same. 1st time I've heard of this problem.

Did you have (or even fall under) the fuel pump recall done? If so, they drop the tank, I wonder if they screwed something up,, or if you could ever get them to admit it, since it would be on the dealer's dime, not Toyota.

There have been a couple of threads on here discussing the fuel filler replacement when the three front bed drain holes have been enlarged by the owner and the drill nicks the hose. Might start there for advice.

I am ok buying the part. The Labor Toyota and a local shop wants to charge is like $600 That's the part that is too much.

That's what I was thinking. I have tried to see in my account if that was done. I THOUGHT it was. And I think like 2 plus years ago. And also thought, it's been too long, they won't own it. But I think it's related too! Really poor customer service and at best, brittle an cheap manufacturing of their parts, if it wasn't that and it just failed.

I can't get the fuel filler neck to release AT the fuel tank. Gray clip has been removed but it still won't come off the tank. Is there some trick or something?

Ok we got the Filler Neck replaced. After driving it around filling it up with no issues, the next day I got the same "Check Gas Cap Warning" came back on. And then as before the CEL: A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or auto transmission has been detected. Take to dealer for inspection.
Very frustrating, truck had been worry free. Now it's seeming like it's going to start being lemon. Seems too new for others to have had the same issue (yet)

ugh that stinks, but it happens, it's not a lemon. I would consider having another shop look at it.

A long shot, but you might try the old-school Fram Gas Cap :notsure:

Did you ever fill your truck up and top it off? Maybe the dealership overlooked the charcoal canister and related parts such as the purge valve?
