Fuel filter location 2007 4.0

Looking for someone to point me in the right direction for the fuel filter location on my 2007 DCLB 4.0 4X4. I have had the truck a couple of years now and doubt the filter has ever been changed. Got about 150,000 on it.

 

Inside the fuel tank. Not serviceable without dropping the tank

 

Even worse is not only is it inside the tank, its not a replaceable part unless you replace the whole sending unit as the filter is built into the sending unit basket. Best course of action is to replace the pump and go with an external filter. URD sells a kit that I have been meaning to get and swap in my truck.

 

Yeah totally stupid design on toyota's part. Haha kinda like the "Lifetime" auto trans fluid..

 

To my knowledge no manufacturer uses a serviceable fuel filter on a gasoline engine vehicle anymore, Ford and GM were the last ones to have them on their trucks and they quit using them around 07.

The vast majority never got changed until the fuel pump went out anyway but I agree it would be nice to have a servicable fuel filter.
