I've been having some issues on hills, and long term fuel trims looked a bit high, so I figured I'd fit a URD pump upgrade rather than pay for another sealed unit.

I didn't like the filter location suggested in the kit, so thought I'd try putting it under the hood, using the existing junctions.

Thought these shots may be useful to someone and maybe give me a sanity check in case I've done something really dumb.

I'd like to swap out the fuel feed line to the rail, and the filter needs a strap to hold it down, but this works for now.

Not too sure about the worm drive hose clamps on plastic fuel lineo_O but other than that looks good:thumbsup:

I would use fuel line connections vs worm drive, even on the suction side. And personally I’d put the filter under the frame rail it’ll be easier access and less maintenance with the heat under the hood. Other than that, looks decent!

I'll swap out that line with crimp on clips as soon as I can.

Is there a reason the heat under the hood is an issue? There are tons of cars with the filter there, but I had second thoughts, which is why I posted.

The fuel pump is supposed to PUMP FUEL
Not PULL FUEL. You will have issues down the road

The pump is still in the tank where it was, it's just the filter that's under the hood; so the pump is still pushing fuel.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm going to switch out both hoses for something close to the original rubber, with crimp on clamps. That should improve the way it all sits too.

I agree with Road Dogs reasoning. The new filter is no hotter than any of the other fuel components, which are all under the hood.

FWIW,..... ounce upon a time ago the fuel filter was located inside the carburetor at the fuel inlet.

Don't just get any ol' rubber hose. Get hoses rated for fuel injector use. Don't wait too long, the fuel and plastic may not like each other.

The OEM location for the fuel filter, on various older Toyota models, was in the engine bay. Some, right next to the block, under the intake. The recent model Hilux's, 2005 +, have theirs in the engine bay, but closer to the engine than yours. It'll be fine in that location.

It’ll probably be ok there, but if I was putting an aftermarket one in, it would be as close to the pump discharge as possible, as well as away from any external heated sources. Likely won’t do any damage where yours is but just providing an opinion. We all know what those opinions are like, assholes. Everyone has one and they all stink.

Looks good. I like the filter padding you put on the bracket. At first I was concerned about the metal filter on the metal bracket with engine vibrations... slowly wearing through one of the two, or both. You have a solution though. Regarding the worm drive clamps, I would remove them and wrap stainless wire a few times around the connections and get a good crimp on the ends. Much more reliable and will not loosen.
