With exception to a Ford Bronco and a Volvo 240, they were all BMWs from the 80s and 90s.
I'm not saying this issue didn't occur with those cars, only that it was far far less noticeable.

Do you need to know, or care?
Question on the Ultra Gauge, how does it read remaining fuel if not using the float gauge info?

My 2003 Toyota Celica is like this as well & mine has a digital fuel gauge with 5 blocks per 1/4 tank in the graphic.

I can drive about 60 miles on the highway on a full tank before the first block even disappears.
And at about 200 miles I reach the half full mark.
and my tank is usually right around E at 320 miles.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
    yawn

Is this what 2016 owners are on about? It's not exactly news that fuel gauges are off, welcome to modern vehicles?

Just curious, my '16 won't be in until the end of the month and I have nothing better to do then buy stuff for it and read these forums so I know what to expect. There does seem to a lot of sensationalism on this forum though.

FWIW, every vehicle I have ever owned I had to learn what the gas gauge was saying to me. For the most part I wish I got the same gas mileage from the second half of my tanks as I did from the first. :D

I've got to admit I've never looked at my fuel gauge that closely.

I usually make a note that I need to fill up soon when it's around 1/4 tank. And I've got the DTE up on the screen anyways, and if I get REALLY ballsy I'll wait until the little low fuel light comes on!!

I actually get a kick out of driving 50 miles (or so) before my gauge drops below full. I like it stuck up there, makes me feel like I got my monies worth at the gas station. :D

Have you tried bending down in the seat slightly to make sure you're looking at the guage correctly?

That's designed like that because most people are stupid and would run out of gas.

First post, but, bought a 2013 135000$peterbilt....at full (200gls)shows 3/4,after 500/600 miles shows empty with red light in gauge flashing and still have approximately 80/100 gallons left...aggravating. Shops say to live with it....Lots more money then 40000$

I'm confused by how aggressive and offended some people are getting at my thread.

I made a well-thought-out and unique thread about an admittedly silly annoyance. I even started by saying how much I loved my truck. And I brought a valid question to the group if "anyone else gets bothered by this or can explain the reasoning behind our fuel gauges?" I didn't insult anyone here, and I certainly didn't break any rules of the forum either. But now I have a minimum of two members "ignoring" me and some pretty sassy responses.

I'm disappointed that the online truck community is so sensitive. Most of you are good though. 20% soiling the rest.

My post was a confirmation to the OP.Perspective. Aggravating to say the least. They've replaced sending units and wires in my Pete. Really sucks that I had to buy fuel in Illinois. ..lol

    None needed.
15 cars, that's all? I see the problem here; you simply do not have enough experience in car ownership.

Eh, technology exists to make it much more accurate. The issue is that the technology is an order of magnitude more expensive than a rheostat; and not enough people care enough to justify the cost

Are you really confused or surprised.

Sure some responses are aggressive on this silly annoyance of yours, but no one is offended or sensitive. It's you that appear to be sensitive to be surprised by the responses you got.

Scangauge and Ultra Gauge use fuel trim data to estimate the fuel used. It's all math. They both allow you to reconcile their estimate to what you actually pumped to improve the estimate. You can even see a change in accuracy when you go from E0 to E10 or to winter blend. Probably better to say it will underestimate your fuel use if you switch from E0 to E10 since the gas has less energy. It doesn't know you have poor gas until you tell it.

    You think this is possible?
I bought new Moto Guzzi motorcycle last year and once the low fuel light comes on the odometer starts counting the miles up. I guess this is so you have a accurate check of how many miles you got before you ran out of gas.:annoyed:
