Hey everybody I got a weird problem with my 2012 Tacoma v6 double cab short bed 6-speed manual 4x4... is it the second time this has happened... what's going on is every time I fill up at the gas station, the gas gauge only goes up to a quarter tank regardless of how much gas was originally in the tank. Now I can get the problem to go away by disconnecting the battery then reconnecting it and it will work normally but only until the next time I fill up and then I will only go to a quarter tank even though the tank is completely filled in reality. I have no idea what the problem is the only thing I can think of is the sending unit and I really hope that's not the case because isn't it in the tank on these trucks? If anyone can offer some insight on what's going on I would greatly appreciate it thanks in advance

I have heard that it is easier to remove the bed than drop the tank...

Maybe measure the sending unit output to check and see if it's that or the gauge cluster

IIRC, it doesn't work on DCSB's, since the pump and sending unit assembly end well under the cab.

One question about the issue though. Are you leaving the key in the off position while fueling? I've found a huge delay in the gauge if the level rises while the key is in the run position. And yes, there was good reason for this, before I get preached at for "SAFETY".

I guess that would be another reason to NOT get a short bed truck.

This has happened to me like 3 or 4 times randomly.

Once I turned the car off and restarted, then drove around a bit, it would slowly move to full.

It's really completely random, I think has time it happened to me was last year. No rhyme or reason. I just chalked it up to a glitch.

I agree man, after I filled up the last time. It worked normally... So weird... And yeah... Its like some sort of glitch that I kinda wanna blame on ambient temperature, as well as the gas station attendant.. Because silly NJ won't let you pump your own gas..
