Hi so I have a very weird problem with my truck right now. I have a multiple misfire check engine code and for some reason my truck does not turn on for a about 5-10 minutes after turning it off. For example when I turn my truck off to go into the store and once I come out and try to start it'll crank but it won't start but once I wait about 5 minutes it's start right up. Also when I get gas every single time it'll crank but won't start unless I wait 5 minutes. Can someone please help me.

    Man sorry

I’m by no means a ‘guru’ here
    But
It’s the dreaded ‘hot no start condition’
    Gonna have to search
FF change seemed to help mine

Ton of other lil easy fixes
But from what I have read…..
80% of permanent fixes are new FP or Injectors

It sounds like a purge valve, its on the passenger side of the engine bay and its a long vacuum hose that leads to the intake.

I would try to pinch or remove the hose to the intake while filling and see if pressure is passing through the valve (it shouldnt be) while filling.

Did you have a check engine light for misfire too? Or do you think that problem is seperate.

When I would come out of the store I would have to hold the key down forever for it to start. Fuel Pump

Not that this fixes the issue

One thread i ‘rabbit holed’ read said to stomp the gas pedal during 1st try to start. Then start normally

Next time she is difficult to start get a spray can of starting fluid, take a large hose off the intake and squirt maybe 2 seconds of fluid into the intake and try to start her, if she fires up immediately it is a lack of fuel that is causing the no start. I forget, does a 98 have coil on plug coils or a distributor?

    I like this test^^^

    Glamisman
If starts after spraying, points to FP?
    Correct?
Any similar test for the ‘leaking injectors’ causing ‘hot no start’?
    Thanks

Maybe… it shows a lack of fuel, verify with fuel pressure/volume test then check fuel pressure regulator and if those pass the tests pull the injectors and have them checked. There is no magic bullet to diagnosis… compression, air, spark, fuel.

A quick test would be to get a noid light in before it cools down to see if the injectors are receiving signal when hot. Not sure about your engine but on the 2.7 you can get to #1 pretty quickly.
If the noid light is firing then I would check spark.
Recently discovered that things like connectors can get flakey and interfere with signals to and from the computer from sensors.
$500+ in parts and 3 months to find out I needed to reseat a connector.
