I’m working on taking apart my engine to replace the heads.. Got pretty far now, and it went apparently a little too smooth so far.. Now I am stuck disconnecting the high pressure fuel line.

Before anyone says it, I am in fact using a flare nut wrench, but nonetheless I have managed to completely strip the nut…

what the hell do I do now?? Of course first thing I did when it rounded off enough that the flare nut wrench was just spinning, was grab vice grips, that was probably not the best idea and has just made it worse..

the line itself isn’t stuck, it has some play in it since I was able to turn the nut maybe one turn before it totally seized up.

Have you tried to tighten it again? Some times you have to work them back and forth when they bind up.

It’s too rounded the wrench just jumps going either way.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
This and the vice grips will mangle the shit out of it but it will probably get the job done. You'll have to get a new fuel line though once it is off - or use the vice grips to tighten it back up and try not to think about how f-ed up it is. I just had the same thing with a hardline on the front brake caliper. I got it off and back on and tight with a vice grips but it bugged me enough to buy a new part. Just waiting for a warm weekend to replace it.

Make sure your hands are going to burst trying to lock the vice grips. That’s how tight they will need to be.

    Ugh
Well look at the issue like this
Your NOT going to reuse the rounded portion of the fuel line
So get medieval with on that line with vise grips
    But
    Save that hose….and connector part
Old School auto part stores can remake hoses/with fittings……cheap….like $45 1day turnaround
Maybe ‘one’ hose made instead of two
    Just a thought
Unk how much dealer would charge for rounded portion of pipe

A non flame heat source may help also. Like a heat gun. But have a fire extinguisher handy. “Just in case”

Don’t sweat it! It’s part of it. Overcome and conquer. Good job man. There’s a fb group 1gen Tacoma part out and salvage. You may be able to get a replacement.

Definitely thought the grips were just spinning at first, I don’t think the sounds that were made are appropriate for this forum

    Is it an option to;
cut 1/4” off the line off just past the flare,
    Slide off nut
    Slide on new nut
And use a kit like this:

Time623 that what I would do if there enough line for that. Napa should have a flare nut for you. If you have one close to you.

So if anyone else has this issue, these flare nuts are basically completely unavailable in store (at least in my area). Autozone sells one thats the correct thread and pitch but its too short.
Only place I found them was on summit, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edd-121069. Pretty annoying having to spend $10 in shipping for a $5 nut..

It seems to fit great though, thread is right and the length works.
The cheap-o flaring kit from Harbor Freight was not easy to use, and I don't think the result came out all that great. Will have to see if it holds pressure once the trucks back together in a couple weeks. I will update with the final result.
