    +1

On my company truck, I finally resorted to sticking Brother P-Touch labels on the top of the fender arch indicating 40psi because Iffy Lube (I know, they were under contract with the leasing company) would always dump them to 28.

You are correct. I had considered some others that must have been load range E for the ten ply. The ST had been a 6 ply and went to 8 ply. I've been learning about siping while looking up the ply info.

So are you saying you want the tire sidewall to bulge out like that or that the bulge is just a result of the pressures you are running on that tire ?

That is a yes to both. Having the small bulge is an indication that the pressure is low enough that the sidewall is bowing under the weight of the vehicle, providing not only a smoother ride but also allowing the tread to conform to the surface.

At full pressure with the same load the sidewall is rigid, making for a wagon-wheel type ride, and not allowing the tread to bend out to the sides.

Low pressure, a.k.a. airing down, allows the tread to conform more readily to uneven surfaces.

I just commuted from LAS to PHX yesterday and was amazed at my mileage. I have been in the 18 and 19 mpg ballpark the last few fuelings. Inflated tires to 35psi, watched my jackrabbit starts, tried to maintain speedlimit for the five hour commute. Ultragauge was showing 22.1 mpg, Fuelly showed best mpg of 21.2, and that was loaded, tailgate down, living room sofa and other household goods hauling!

I was amazed with the increase in mpg. I hope I can keep getting that same mileage because I was getting depressed with the previously low mpg.

    What road did you take?
My '94 normally got 18mpg, but when I ran from Vegas to Tucson, I took Hwy 93.
The 55 limit had just been lifted, and I had been told that Arizona highway patrol was zero-tolerance for out of state drivers doing more than the posted 75 on the interstate, but didn't know if they were forgiving on the 55 still posted on the US Highways, so I ran that entire trip at 55.

33mpg on that segment of the trip. 75 from Phoenix to Tucson and I was back down to 18.

I commute on the 93. Most of it has turned into divided highway. Speed limit is mostly 65, but for the past 10 years of commuting, I have set the cruise control on 72 and DPS has never stopped me for over the limit.

Some of my cars have Arizona plates and the Taco has Nevada plates. The short stretch of I-40 from Kingman to the 93 is a raceway. Cars from out of state pass me when I am traveling at the posted 75 or greater and I hardly see any enforcement there also. My estimate is they are traveling 85 or greater.

The commute has gotten exceptionally better since the installation of the bridge at the Colorado River. No more meandering through the Hoover Dam with the checkpoints and tourists gawking. There were trips where we waited to cross the dam for more than 2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic. Not much good for gas mileage.

WOW!!! I need to change my vote from 18 to +22 I'm now getting 23mpg as of today after 700km of driving highway in crappy weather blowing snow and using 4x4 half the time. Increasement of 5mpg pretty good I think :)

Ahh... so they did bump the limit then.
Last time I went through on that stretch was late 90s.
I haven't been over the dam since the bridge went in, but I did ride across the dam while the bridge was under construction and don't recall any checkpoints.

between installed add-ons and a few tools i probably carry about an extra 500lbs over stock, but i get roughly

take it easy in town - 16 MPG

play around driving in town, 'race' at the stop light, lol - 13 MPG

highway at like 55MPH-60MPH steady i even got as high as 21 MPG once!

interstate ( i run between 89MPH - 93MPH generally, depnding on weather and tools carrying, etc 11 MPG, MAX is about 13 MPG, but these truck gear out early so running close to 100MPH you up above 2000 RPM's constant.

BTW anyone know if these have governors? highest i got to so far was about 120 but it was pretty much geared out and yelling at me to slow down, lol.

    cheers,
    disco

As the Post Title indicates I haven't run enough fuel through the Truck to have a good data sample. Only 2 1/2 tanks so far and more around town than highway miles and getting 18+. Normally I am fairly easy on the skinny pedal, don't race away from the stoplights and coast to a stop when not in traffic. Road trip coming up and I am very interested to see what the highway mileage will be ... and I expect it will just keep getting better and better as there isn't even 1500 miles on the truck yet.:)
