That garbage Rodrigo is putting up is laughable man.

For what it's worth my 12 got better mileage than my 13. They were the exact same truck minus the 12 was Black and the 13 is Grey.

 

24 highway at 65 might be a little optimistic, but it is not laughable and is possible.

18 city is certainly possible.

 

Taking into consideration the rotation of the earth while in neutral? A tailwind while traveling downhill for 300 miles?
No way. No how. Not never.

 

We've got more than one member pulling over 26 from the 2.7.
The 4.0 is capable of pulling 22+.

Try it... get out on the highway and keep your speed below 65.
You'd be surprised.
My 5-lug gets 22 at 80... 26 at 65.

Just because YOU can't get those numbers out of your truck doesn't mean it's impossible.

 

I have tracked my mileage for 102 fuel-ups on www.fuelly.com and I have tried babying it, not babying it, different fuel additives, different fuel types, cruise control and without. I drive 90% highway. My average is 18.7mpg.

 

If I drove 90% highway, my average would be 19.5 or better. But I also go 70 mph or less. I drive the opposite, mostly city, with towing mixed in. Rarely can I set my cruise for more than a few miles.

 

Just finished a 3,500 mile round trip for hunting in November and tracked every mile and every gallon of fuel on a spread sheet. The trip included US Interstate, US highways, State highways, city streets, county gravel roads and even a mile or so off road. The vehicle is a 2010 Tacoma - I-4, Auto, Access cab, Base model, with hard lid with (then) 91k miles and new tires. Interstate driving was at 80mph, average. State and US highways 65 mph, average.

Best mileage was 23.0 mpg and worst was 17.4 mpg.
Average mileage according to the spreadsheet for the entire trip was 19.9 mpg.

18 city is what I get when I'm cruising at 40. Sorry about the 24 on high way. Its more like 20 or 22 at 65 mph. Don't believe me? I don't care. BTW. My truck is all stock. No armor, lift. Etc.

about 14 MPGS...35's,4:88's,locrite.

 

I've averaged 12.4-12.7 US mpg on my last 4 tanks. That's roughly 320-350 km per tank. Not impressed at all. My tire pressure is good and my spark plugs and air filter were both changed at my last service. By far the worst mileage I've gotten in my 3 years of ownership.

 

I average 17 MPG. 1GR supercharged, 285/75R16s.

Has the fuel you've been using have ethanol in it by chance? I have noticed that ethanol causes a little loss of power and a very noticeable loss in fuel economy. 10% ethanol is good for 2 to 3 mpg less. E-85 (I tried it one time) knocked 6.5 mpg off a normal average fuel economy.

I have a spread sheet that I have kept since my 2010 was new and have logged every gallon of gas, service, repair tire, recall, you name it. Worst fuel economy was turned in by that one tank of E-85 - which was actually only 16.2 gallons. I am not sure why, and I am not a chemist or chemical engineer, but I believe it is because ethanol/alcohol has less hydrocarbons and therefore less potential thermal energy than gasoline.

I do not baby my vehicle and I routinely get 21-23 mpg in mixed city/highway driving in summer and 19-21 mpg in winter. Mandated oxengenated fuels and all that rot for the Phoenix Metroplex, doncha know.

Vehicles that are not flex-fuel will be damaged by E85!
The ECU can adjust the mixture to compensate for up to E15, but gasoline is stoich at 14.7:1, ethanol is stoich at closer to 9.5:1
Running E85, your engine was running EXTREMELY lean. I'm surprised it was not knocking badly and throwing a CEL.

Ethanol has a very high octane... around 112-118, but it has only 80% the BTU content of gasoline.
That is where the power loss comes from.

It burns very cool, and being a smaller molecule, can potentially produce far more power than gasoline, but that comes at the expense of economy, and only in a high compression engine that can take advantage of the high octane.
There is a reason alcohol is used in racing cars.

 

The mileage is depressing. Face it.

 

Its not the engine's fault though. I've never got less than 22mpg with my 4runner. average 24mpg in it.

The tacoma is lucky to get 17 on average.

 

So my ultra gauge says I am getting 21.4mpg on average. However, my odometer tells me that I am getting 380 to a tank. A tank is usually 19.2 gallons of fuel dispensed from the station. If I do simple math and carry the 2 I get 19.79mpg's. How is it that my ultra gauge can be this far off when it is reading directly from the control module......

 

It's not reading fuel use, it is estimating it.

From the ultragauge manual.....

3.At the next fuel fill-up, note the number of gallons used (pumped).
Select MENU Vehicle Setup..Calibration..Calibrate MPG/Fuel
and enter the fuel used. Press MENU when complete to set and save the calibration. Use the same Gas station and pump for best results. Alternatively, record and add the actually gallons used over several fill-ups to improve accuracy.

 

It is calibrated for 19.2 gallon fuel tank.
