All of this is somewhat non-sense! It depends on the model and engine you have. If you have a 4x4, you will certainly get bad gas mileage. Different models get different gas mileage.

This has been a pretty successful thread but I think we need to creat a separate thread for each model Tacoma out there for it to really be meaningful.

    Exactly well said!
I think there has been multiple mpg threads do not remember specific ones but they all turn into the same thing or so it seems.
    FWIW
Both my 4WD DC V6 autos (2006/2013) get around the same 18-19. Trucks were stock.

You mean in addition to the 20 other "Do you get bad mileage" "What mileage do you get" "Fuel sippin' 2.7 Full Tank Challenge" threads on the forum?

There are simply too many variables for fuel economy to be compared objectively on an online forum.
That's why the EPA ratings exist, and contrary to the way the ratings were done 20 years ago, today, they are pretty accurate, and it is not difficult to exceed the EPA rating (unless you bought a C-Max). I've been able to do that on my last 3 or 4 vehicles.

How many different threads with polls can we make?

    2.7
    4.0
    5 lug
    prerunner
    4x4
    Access cab
    Regular cab
    Double cab
    Stock tires?
    Oversized tires?
    Lifted?
    Lowered?
    Supercharged?

That's about 48 possible configurations right there... each with a different realistic MPG result.

Now factor in elevation, temperature, availability or ethanol-free fuel, tire pressure, driver's maturity level, vehicle off-roaded.....

The best we can do is toss out all of our numbers, providing as much information as possible in our profiles and posts, and let others find another truck similar to theirs to compare with.

    Exactly!!!!^^^^
Im just asking for average not Exact amount!! Thats why i had said to mention what you have on your truck, and post it ofcourse like any other thread, there will be alot more voting then posting! some people just dont bother typing! like me!

But half those "possible threads" just are wayyy silly to make, poll about 5lug? like what difference is that going to make? and Cab types, wont make to much of a diff,

Back to what i had said at the beginning just list what model of truck you have, driving habits, where u drive, etc...

Lol thats what i thought.. but its all good now im relieved!! Whew!! but no i dont know of a app that does take estimation? its wasnt very popular so could be why it was 2stars ha!

I also took out the K&N filter.. heard to much bad stuff about it being so thin, and having to clean it so often, i dont have time to do that, so i put a regular toyota filter in, and after coming back from a trip from lethbridge, i got 20.72.mpg, with 265/75r17, so meh.

Just a bunch of old crap
    I average 16.1mph right now.

    '06 TRD Sport access cab
    886 springs, 5100's at 0
    Rear AAL
    285/70/17 BFG KM2's
    Plate AP bumpers front/rear
    Front winch
    AP IFS skid
Bed rack w/baskets and full size spare on top

Lots of weight from the armor and lots of drag from the bed rack. Obviously I was going to get worse MPG with the 300# of extra steel, not even including the bed rack and full size spare, plus the mileage change from the bigger tires.

I have to really go easy on the skinny pedal to keep MPG over 16.

I have 09 base model 2.7 regular cab. I get around 27mpg. The only change from stock is 235/75/15 tires.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
People should also include what the weight is in their truck.

I weigh in at 5460lbs with my everyday load (recovery gear, SAR gear, tools, water, armor). I have an aFe Intake, DT Y-Pipe, aFe 3" Cat-back and 285/70r17 Goodyear MT/Rs (originals) kept @ 33psi.

I have been averaging 13-14mpgs on the last 4 fill-ups. Rarely to I get to the 250mile mark on my odometer :(

402 miles on one tank from yesterday and today driving from Nashville to the Smoky Mtns and back, filled up afterwards with 20.058 gallons, got exactly 20.0 mpg. The only thing I have done differently is I swapped one quart of Mobil 1 for Marvel Mystery Oil about a 1000 miles ago for my last home oil change. Otherwise nothing and I mean nothing is different with the vehicle. I use 87 octane. My tank of gas used was from the same Kroger station a few blocks from our house where I buy all my local gas.

Now the back story, never ever ever have I gotten higher than 18.2 mpg (single stretch driving through country roads in KY last fall). Flat out my mileage has been down right crappy most of the time over 56 tanks of gas and 14K miles. I bought the truck with 112K last August and drove it home from Georgetown, TX. I started tracking mileage a week later in Aug 2012.

I have changed oil 3-4 times, use Mobil 1 synthetic, Toyota filter. I have had the alignment done great, balanced several times for smooth ride. No lift, just run Dueller A/T tires 265/70R17. I installed Billy 5100's, cleaned my throttle body, cleaned my MAF sensor, changed diff fluids and transfer case fluids and use an ARE Pro Dry air filter. My winter mileage was 13-14. My usual highway mileage is 14-17. I have a DCLB 4x4 with Leer cap and Yakima rack.

This last trip I had camping gear and large bags of photography gear. Shooting for a client in the Smokies.

So how else do I explain the miraculous increase in fuel economy when nothing else has been changed except Mystery Oil for last oil change? Driving up the Cumberland plateau is not a good fuel economy kind of drive. I've made this drive many times and average 16-17 usually.

5 lug has different gearing, smaller tires, and is lower to the ground, so it's going to typically do better than a similarly equipped 2.7 Prerunner.

Cab type changes the weight and aerodynamics.

The rpm/kph ratio is fixed, unless your transmission wouldn't lock torque converter with oem filter, but don't see how air filter would change that at part throttle cruising.

I currently drive about 4 miles each way to work everyday. I'm trying to figure why I only get about 11 mpg but when I get it out on hwy I get about 15. I'm running 285/16 goodyears with no armor or extra weight in the truck but it is a 4x4. It's all flat land also. Never remember it being this bad. Anyone have any ideas?

well thats why i had asked for model, engine and such, besides really in general most of us would get about the same, if we all did the same kind of driving, cause isnt what that sticker is about when u first drive it off the lot what the truck gets for fuel mileage hahah!!,

05, 170k on the clicker, lowered 4.5/5.5, 5spd, 9" of rubber on contact up front, 11" in the rear, cat fell apart so no B.P. is wierd especially with the 4.0 exhaust from the cat back (larger dia tubing for this muffler) no motor work other then the broken kitty. Work is a 10 minute city drive and everything else is freeways. Average 19, think if I rebuilt the motor I could get her back to 22. Would really like to opt out for the D4D deisel though. Would get an easy 35-40 if I had that.

Just filled up today .. 12.2 .. Yep, those bigger tires really kicked the crap out of my fuel mileage. Now that isn't taking into account the farther distance traveled that the odometer doesn't record. So maybe it is closer to 14. But it looks cool ..
