Put it in tow/haul and turn off traction control by holding the button for 3 seconds. That really wakes em up!

I have the Pro and similar to Rob4092xx. I can get up to 17 in town if I feather the throttle and try to max fuel. Highway is similar. However, this cold weather has really hurt that. Down at least 2 mpg. Not thrilled with the mileage. I live in Illinois but spend a lot of time in northern Wisconsin.

Just tint and ppl for now.
Winter blend gas is killer. Every year I watch the mpg's drop at around October through April.

"93 Octane Fuel (required)" You got a supercharged LC?
The i-Force Max only requires 87 (R+M/2, USA), unless your somewhere that uses RON octane rating. (most all other countries)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

    Getting 18-19 MPG

Getting just under 22 MPG lately. Past week or so with single digit temps in upstate NY I have dropped to 20.5 MPG. I find that using 93 Octane my mileage went down. 91 octane has been the best so far on mileage.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
V6 to I4 for negligible MPG gains? Interesting. My old 06 4 liter would get 20+ loaded at 72mph down the freeway. What's been gained?

The number of cylinders an engine has has almost nothing to do with its output compared to another engine outside the same design family. You have to make meaningful comparisons.

Your 1GR-FE made 237HP/266ft*lbs. The T24A-FTS in the iFORCE-MAX Tacomas makes 278HP/281ft*lbs by itself and an additional 48HP and 184ft*lbs with the motor. Your V6 makes its torque at 4000RPM. The T24A-FTS makes its torque at 1700RPM. The "four banger" makes more, more usable power and torque than the V6 does. Toyota says it does it with less emissions, too. The fact that it does it with about the same fuel economy is also pretty cool.

If you're comparing only cylinder count, you miss the whole story. By your metric, the V16 Cadillac briefly made is better than your V6. It's got more cylinders! Never mind that it made all of 165bhp (probably gross horsepower, too) from 7.4L. It probably weighed 1500lbs, too.

I'm sorry to tell you, but your thinking is shared with people who live under rocks.

Anybody who hates their 4-cylinder Tacoma iForce can swap it with my V6 Tacoma. If they like. Send me a PM I'll swap

I finally cancelled my Trailhunter order.

My long since paid for 6200lb built 05 and camper gets 16-17mpg highway even in the dead of Winter. It's also S/C'd putting out 407HP / 386tq, has tons of power down low and will outright scream if I goose it.

Might have to consider a full size truck for my next one, in the meantime, I hope mine continues to hold up.

It seems like manufacturers don't try very hard to get good mileage out of their midsize trucks. I wonder if it's intentional to try to get people to go full size for more profit.

These Tacoma hybrid numbers are no better than I see with my F-150 hybrid (similar also to the Tundra Hybrid), which seems strange because it's around 800 lbs lighter and down about 100 HP and 100 ft lbs of torque, while also probably having better aerodynamics since the face of the truck is physically smaller.

It isn't just Toyota either, I am not picking on them - there are lots of examples. The Ranger with the 2.3 doesn't seem to do much better in real world driving than the F-150 with the 2.7.

As someone who’s owned both the new Toyota turbo (3.5 and 2.4) engines, the new Tacoma 2.4L does not disappoint. The newer 3.5L in my 2023 Tundra is terrible in gas, while the 2.5 is doing surprisingly well.

There's very little difference between a midsize and full size any longer. Drive train and running gear options are mostly interchangeable for each maufacture and everyone is doing the same thing. Trucks are getting heavier and engines are getting smaller.

2005, ordered new in November of 2004, it has 222,000 miles, will keep it until I figure out what I am doing next. The camper is on it pretty much full time, without it I easily get 20mpg if I am not living in the boost. That front bumper is aluminum and weighs around 50lbs.

My other vehicle is electric, I suppose that is what I am waiting for in my next truck (6’ foot bed mandatory) but current events in this county may have stalled that for awhile.

    Looks great!

We may never see another Tacoma access cab (with doors) and a 6 foot bed.
