I have a question. What are you men getting for your gas mileage on the 3rd generation 2 wheel drive Tacoma’s. I have a 22 Tacoma Limited and I’m getting around 21 on the highway ( 70 mph) and 19.5 -20mpg in town, STOCK. Just curious . I was hoping for closer to the 23mpg on the highway.

Are you basing it off what the computer says or are you hand calculating it? I bought my 2020 TRD OR in Florida a couple months ago and drove it home to MN. My highway speeds were 70-75 and I averaged 23.5 on most tank fulls. That was hand calculating it, but the computer averaged only .2 higher so it was very close, but they can be off more than that in either direction.

    Oh look, another mod....
Your MPG's is based off a number of factors, you can have the exact same truck as another guy, but the circumstances for the other guy are different, so he may get better (or worse) MPG's. Here are a few of the factors:

    1) Your driving style. Do you speed? Drive under the limit? Take off quickly?
    2) Tires & lift. Do you have heavy tires or a lift? This impacts rolling resistance.
    3) Do you live in high elevation or an area with a lot of hills/mountains?
    4) Is the majority of your driving city or highway?
    5) Do you have a front air dam? JK, this doesn't impact shit. I just wanted to anger the pro-air dam people on this site.
    6) Is your truck 4 or 6 cyl? 4wd-2wd. The best MPG's are achieved on the 2wd 4cyl. Those things can easily get 28MPG's.

Now....I will sit back and watch the arguing begin!

Now, I do know that mileage depends on many factors as you mentioned but I’m talking just highway today@ 70 mph with light winds. I’m easy on the throttle at my age. I was just more so curious to see the mileage ranges with Toyota giving the Tacoma a 24 mpg.

My computer is always 1 mpg higher than hand calculating. I did gain a mpg when I got a KD Max tune. I think I am now getting the winter blend of fuel as my mileage has dropped at least 2 mpg on the last two tanks. But I have been getting 21 mpg consistently on my 4wd after my tune. I can see getting 23 mpg with a 2wd and highway tires.

I have often hit the mid 20's and more often than not it's when I'm doing 70mph for long stretches. I think I clocked 26+ a few days ago. Pretty darn happy about that.

Sorry I can't help here. I have a Tacoma with a manual and I drive it like mean ugly people are chasing me in a Supra.
My gas mileage isn't good, and this is so much fun it ain't going to get any better.

My best was 31mpg, but I consistently hit 29mpg. I’m DCLB 6cyl everything stock except bakflip….Yes airdam too for all the haters.

OP, lots of haters on here for people that get high mpg. Hurts their feelings due to poor life decisions of adding a 6inch lift, adding larger tires that weigh an extra tolls, removing the airdam, adding 1,000lbs of camping gear to a bed rack, etc etc :crapstorm: And then they’ll argue the computer mileage is off by 20 mpg’s.

Why can’t people just be happy for others?….. the old adage: People want you to do well, just not better than them.

    It's a secret
There are women on here who have good information for you also...work the numbers by including them in your inquiry and statistically you will gain a better trove of knowledge... XD

In my case, 14 MPG City and 19 MPG Freeway/Highway...Peak powerband for torque and HP are my preference...

If I drove at 60 on the highway, probably 23. 50 to 55 might get ya 24. I have a manual off road though. I drive super slow. Unless I'm late for work.

I will add, I don't have a lot of stuff in it, bed seems full but not really heavy stuff. I have a dometic fridge, a bin with all my hunting gear, a duffle and backpack, some extra stuff. 25+ would be sweeet

2019 Sport 2wd…65% hwy and 35% city or so, Cent. FL so basically completely flat terrain. Ive been getting 20.8 lifetime average since 2019 when I bought it. That’s calculating every fill up with the math method so it’s hitting about exactly what it should based on what Toyota says. It gets up to around 24 and change at 70 mph and I’ve gotten close to 26 doing 60.

I have a tonneau cover so that likely helps on the hwy especially but that’s it. Stock tires inflated to around 30 PSI.

I do almost all city driving and I'm lucky if the computer says 18.5 at the end of the tank...

Stock 22 sport and I drive very conservatively...

Your highway MPG is about what I would expect at 70MPH. If you slow down 5-10 MPH, you should gain 2-3 MPG.

To me, what's surprising is your in-town MPG. 19-20 MPG is really good in town, and you must have a light foot and coast whenever you can.

For comparison even though my location and driving habits are different and I have an AC 4WD MT, I was averaging 22-23 MPG before the switch to winter fuel and winter tires. I am now averaging 20-21. On the highway if I keep it 60-65 MPH, I get 23-25 MPG. In town, it sucks and drops off to low to mid-teens MPG, and I have a light foot.

70 degrees no wind and 55 mph is the only way you'll get there.
