    I have a 2016 Ram 2500 Cummins - 14 recalls.

For comparison, a 2016 and 2017 Tacomas have had 4 recalls. The 2018 has had 2 recalls and the 2019 has 3 (one was for labels).

It's important to keep things in perspective....don't you all agree?

Not everyone is going to share your experience; which helped shaped your perspective.
Maybe it's better to just remain...objective.
FWIW, I've always said, "I bought a Toyota because they sucked the least".

My perspective is that creating five threads a day over one recall is a loss of perspective.

GreyBaldTaco posted this relatively quickly. I considered that a public service. Every new thread since then I don't hold in the same regard.

At least it’s a free repair. Could just be faulty and us holding the bag on it.

Hello... My name is Bluebros and I am a paranoid Tacoma owner.

Of course I'm paranoid about the fuel pump because my 2019 TRD OR is averaging about 13.5 -14.0mpg (mostly city driving) from the day I drove it off the lot. Something hasn't felt right. Checked the recall list and I'm clear but still I have to wonder what is causing the terrible gas mileage. My 95' 4Runner gets better fuel economy than my brand new Tacoma. Can anyone point me to a thread where people have already started this gripe? Surely I can't be the only one experiencing such poor gas mileage... :angrygirl:

I’ve replaced my fair share of fuel pumps. Once in a Nissan Sentra and a Toyota Corolla. These are normally simple to replace and can be done in a couple hours if you’re new to it, just a matter of doing a little research.

However, Toyota is going to fix it, which says something about them as a whole. (at least they own up to it... looking at you GM)

I’d be more concerned if the head gaskets were leaking or if the frame was rusting on a 2016+.

Good news is it probably couldn’t have came at a better time for those of us looking to throw the twin turbo into our trucks. Might be able to talk the dealer into throwing in an upgraded after market if you know them well enough

But jump on the bandwagon, Scotty Kilmer is already on board.

It’s a vendor issue. AC Delco supplies the Tacoma low pressure fuel pump in the fuel tank. There is also a high pressure fuel pump on the engine.

Sorry if this has been posted already but do we know what the actual cause of the failures is? Is it electrical, mechanical, both? Maybe a failure/condition that would introduce voltage signal noise into the electrical system?

Is it really an AC Delco fuel pump? AC Delco is junk.

    Yep, sure it is.
I carried AC Delco fuel pumps in my auto parts stores for years and they had one of the lowest defect ratios in the industry.

So this recall has been "going on" with my Tacoma for the last 30 days. I noticed it when I was driving home from work one day. It felt like the truck was stuck between 2wd and 4hi and wanted to shift over but it wouldn't.

I didn't feel safe driving it so I had it brought to my dealership due to it still being under warranty.

They said it would take 30-60 days to get the permanent fix for it. 30 days later... Japan told my dealership to put the same "new" fuel pump in the truck for now because the don't have a solution for it at the moment and they don't want to keep paying for a rental.

I was told if this pump fails, to bring it in and they will install another one. Then rinse and repeat until they come up with a true solution.

    Figured I'd give y'all a heads up

Driving with the HPFP or LPFP deficeincy is dangerous. I had my truck quit suddenly multiple times on the highway, no power.. nothing. Had to coast over to right curb and reset. Left turn onto oncoming traffic , probably would have died. Had both fuel pump replaced, no problems since except the leaf springs squeak. ‘19 Sport.

I don't have a link but I read somewhere that the problem was the impellers absorbing fuel and swelling and mostly occurring in warmer climates.

Service rep at the Toyota dealership in Kamllops B.C. (trading area pop.:200k hot in summer, cold in winter) said that they have yet to see a vehicle with a failed pump.

Almost as much fun as a good beating with a rubber hose. I'm one who who would let Toyota know EXACTLY how I'm feeling.

First I found out about this is when my truck stalled out in an intersection. It's been 30+ days out of service.

I asked corporate to buy it back or replace it with a 2020. Three weeks out of lemon law protections in NV and i've been out of a vehicle i'm making payments on but can't use. And the rentals i've been given aren't nearly as capable.
