hey! I ended up finally getting in. Its been a week and I was informed they expected 1-2 weeks for parts. At which its just being bandaided with same pump. I was given a loaner on the dealer. And informed that next one will be on Toyota’s tab. I am going to ask them what happens if it fails again, if not replaced with ‘fixed’ pump. I was told by a friend who is actually a mechanic there, that this has been happening quite a lot as well, for what it’s worth.

Appreciate you sharing your experience as well. I have the same question about the ovtune as posted above. Notice you have a PRO? man it sucks to pay so much for something and have something happen like this.

Also, ultimately more than glad that my family was not with me, it honestly could have caused an accident or left me stranded under different circumstances.

This is the same response I PMd mtnfisher. I’ll post it here so everyone can see.

It’s not their tune that fixes it but they will be selling their fuel pump upgrades which uses an aftermarket pump and a modified fuel pump controller. I already purchased one since I’ll be using their twin turbo system.

Decided to get it fixed by dealer for time being since it’s still under warranty And wanted it documented. I had the 2.0 tune installed too and they didn’t even notice it.

My wife was with me when it happened. I’m just glad I wasn’t on the freeway when symptoms occurred. I’m glad they’re able to schedule you. Mine took about 3 days for turn around. Dropped it off weds afternoon and it was ready Saturday same week. They also told me part wasn’t available and would take 10 days minimum for shipping but ended up being a lot quicker. I just wish I had a loaner provided which wasn’t available.

Update- this is the controller/fuelpump I ordered from them. https://www.ovtuned.com/collections/forced-induction/products/ovtune-tacoma-upgraded-fuel-pump

If I wasnt under warranty or NOT going forced induction with my truck, the fuel pump from Ebay mentioned on here will probably be the route I would go with. but I would change the actual pump itself with a denso or aem with bigger LPH flow rate in case boost ever became an option so I wouldn't have to upgrade again.

If it’s a lubrication issue that’s what I would do considering 2 cycle is made to go through combustion unlike tranny fluid.

I know a guy with a Silverado HD with the duramax and those actually have or had a class action due to fuel pumps failing. The fuel pump they installed were made for the Euro market and Euro diesel has a much higher lubricant content than US diesel so the pumps are failing. Early on he was told by a mechanic to pour in a few ounces of 2 cycle when he filled up and he has to this day.

Zero issues since he’s owned it while others have had to pay several thousands because the pump would destroy itself and the shrapnel would go downstream and ruin fuel rails and injectors which on a diesel is not cheap.

9k+ here, mine is on the list. Build date 11/2018.

I have a hunting trip planned for this Nov, about a 3k round trip to remote area in CO. It's a special once in a lifetime tag. Not really happy about this issue.

Spoke with a local service Mgr, he said Toyota won't address the fuel pump issue until it fails or they receive the notice to start the campaign. He did say they are currently performing the campaign on the Corollas.

He also said Toyota will deny any liability if my truck fails in the backcountry since I knowingly ventured off road knowing there is a TSB out for this issue.

It's extremely rare, all trucks and engines can fail. Don't stress.

He wasn't sure, I did ask. He is going to check the part numbers for fuel pumps for the Corolla to see if it's the same pump for the Tacoma. Obviously the improved fuel pump is available to dealers for the Corollas since they are performing the TSB fix.

I can understand certain aspects of this, but what did we pay so much money for, and how will they compensate the inconveniences stuff like this causes.
I Hope everything works out for you and your tag buddy.

My dealer in British Columbia said Tacomas get fixed end of Sept. The dealer service dept said that they have yet to see a failed pump as it is mostly happening in warmer climates.

For those who are on the list but haven’t had failure yet, what are some good practices to help avoid a s__tshow before the “remedy” is available?

This issue is growing lawsuits for not just Toyota but others. Denso at the root of it all. More info here:

    https://www.classaction.org/news/to...safe-and-dependable-class-action-lawsuit-says

    From one of the articles:

"The Denso fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank and has a low-density plastic impeller that may crack and absorb excessive fuel which deforms the impeller. The deformed impeller can make contact with the fuel pump body, causing the pump to fail."

" The lawsuit alleges occupants and others are put at risk once the pump fails.

According to the lawsuit, the low-pressure fuel pump also damages other "downstream components," including a high-pressure pump cooled and lubricated by fuel from the low-pressure pump. This allegedly causes overheating and other damage due to the decreased flow of fuel, while combustion problems cause the engine to shake.

A shaking engine allegedly causes premature wear and tear on the rubber engine and drivetrain mounts, which allegedly damages materials (platinum, palladium and rhodium) in the catalytic converter." End of quote

That's great news, I think there's a good chance I can get mine done before November. Fingers crossed here and a Mega cup of Joe FTW!

That's interesting. Toyota's website is still telling me it's unavailable.
