False alarm. The letter was for our '18 Highlander. I didn't even know that they had the same fuel pump issue. Both cars are to my name which created the confusion. Oh well, back to waiting...

The toyota website still says pending remedy despite sending me a letter about a month ago for my 2018.

Got a recall notice check email today from the local dealer to check status. I go to the website to and it says no parts available. Unbelievable it is taking this long for something that could cause serious accidents. Hope the fix will be soon

Yeah jeez they only had to replace 1.4 million fuel pumps, what's taking so long? It's not like there are any supply chain issues right now. I probably have at least 40,000 spare pumps in my garage.

But sarcasm aside, I really hope mine doesn't die when I'm on a trip. :(

Obviously you never had a part fail on your vehicle that caused a near death experience. Well, let me say it is not fun situation to be in and hope to never ever go through that again. With my experience, I probably take this more serious than most do.

Oh, I get that, and I'm not happy about it either. I just don't know what more they could do. They've already offered the recall service to over a million people. We just happen to be at the end of the list for some reason.

Hadn't heard about this. I popped my VIN into Toyota's site and no open recalls were found for my 2019 so I guess it wasn't part of the affected group.

I called Toyota on my late MY19 and they said I wasn't affected by the Fuel Pump or the Airbag recalls. Either I got lucky, or they weren't ready to confess yet.... :fingerscrossed:
unclear to me what would have changed on the fuel pumps midyear that we'd be ok

This whole deal puts a damper on my enthusiasm for Toyota products. I've had very good luck with them so far though. This Tacoma has been a good truck but the lingering threat of pump failure and lack of a repair for us is not what owners want to see.

    Just a bummer.

Perfect - I am certain they will offer to cover all that!
BMW ate shit for years after there was too much proof that the plastic water pump impeller was disintegrating and blocking cooling passages and radiators later.
I'm sure the weight savings on a 4" internal impeller was importatmt though :)

Toyota is just as bad as any other manufacturer these days. I can’t believe people are still falling for the reliability gimmick even after 4+ years of the 3rd gen being out.

Toyota Corolla had that same water pump issue. Toyota Mr2 Spyder had an issue with the precats breaking down and sucking particles back into the engine and wreaking havoc. Toyota Avalon had serious sludge problems. And I'm sure there are many many more years and models with problems. So Toyota being bullet proof is far from true. But, all the other manufacturers have issues as well. The forum just brings all the crap to your attention so you can stress worried that its going to happen. I have a senior buddy that has a 2019 he drives every day all day and has never even touched a computer so he had no paranoia and loves his truck.

ya are correct - Part of the industry I'm afraid, but they should be able to move faster on safety issues like the Airbags and pumps. The FAA would ground these at the hint of a concern

    This isn't a Toyota issue, it's a Denso issue.

According to DENSO, the defective fuel pumps were sold to these manufacturers:

    Ford
    Honda
    Mazda
    Magnuson Products
    Subaru
    Toyota
    Mitsubishi

So what brand of fuel pump do you recommend?

Toyotas reliability is legendary, based on over 40yrs of experience including family, relatives, friends and work.

My lunch break is over now but I will post some cool things for you later.

The dealership from whom we just bought our 2019 had several Tacoma's on the lot that they could not sell due to this issue. If I had pressed, they would have sold me one but I could not have it until the fuel pump was replaced and they were waiting along with everyone else.
