So, I noticed that I was getting a massive power loss while cruising on the freeway, and occasionally when accelerating in light traffic. I dropped a set of brand new spark plugs in, and while it runs better and I'm getting slightly better fuel economy, I'm still having the power loss issue.

I goggled around, stupidly just did a search for tacoma fuel filter location, and went down to just buy a new filter, but I decided to actually verify I have a filter on the frame rail under the driver's door, and I don't. Goggled a bit more, and found out that, like my Baja, the Taco doesn't have a fuel filter outside of the sock on the pump.

Therefore, I'm now considering a walbro 255 replacement with a URD in-line filter kit. Local dealer (it's a Lithia dealer) wants $270 for an OEM pump, plus $400 to install (I can do it myself). URD sells the walbro 255 with filter kit for $185.

Is it worth it to spend less and get the walbro, or should I just fork over for the OEM pump? I seriously wish there was a non-Lithia Toyota dealer, but... The closest one is like 3 states away.

Can't say anything outside that Walbro is a well known brand. Used one of their fuel pumps in my 331ci Fox Mustang with no issues. That was in-tank pump as well. I actually think it was a 255lph pump as well.

Not sure how that transfers over to Tacomas. Most people will most likely say stay with OEM. This is just a personal experience i've had with that brand.

Well, I thought I had it filtered by year, toyota, and taco, but it was showing me Camry pumps. >_> Those were $270. The Taco pump was $400. I could literally buy two walbro pumps and have enough left over for a 6 pack of zero sugar Mt Dew for the cost of a single OEM pump.

I'll just order the URD kit with a walbro pump.

Have you checked fuel pressure at all?

could also be the fuel pump resistor.

That stated, id opt for the DW 255 pump as its e85 compatible... and while the truck should be ran on more than E10, more ethanol protection in a pump means longer pump life overall. Also the DW pumps are known to be quieter.

The nearest pump with e85 is around 1800 miles away. I've never seen, nor used e85 in this entire state, and I don't intend to use e85 unless it becomes widely available. However, e0 is available here, though only in Premium form, which I ran 99% of the time in my turbo Subarus.

I'll get a DW pump if it's quieter...

And I don't have a fuel pressure tester, I might rent one on Saturday.

Yeah, for me its not about running E85, just better longevity with standard fuel that is E10 here, quieter would also be nicer but dont quote me on it.

I'm going to go with the DW pump, since it's a whopping $5 more expensive than the walbro.

Since it's really easy to get to, I pulled my resistor and checked it, and I was only getting 6 OHMS of resistance, so I'm going to guess that the resistor is also bad.

This basically means I'm going to order a replacement resistor and the pump, and do both. I might make a little jumper kit just in case it dies on me on my way to work.
