Does anyone know how this PART works? I see in another thread that it's still installed in tacomas as late as 2004. It's called a "solenoid" but I don't see any electrical connection. Is it just a relief valve? another thread says it goes to the charcoal canister.

I dropped the tank to replace the fuel pump and I'm wondering if I should replace it too. I rinsed the tank with the delphi cleaning solution but I was careful not to get it wet. Anyway I can test to see if it's still working properly before I put everything back together? Would a vacuum test do the job?

I don't mind replacing it for a peace of mind, except the part number for the gasket (77179-26010) has been replaced with 77179-26011 and the system says it won't fit my 96 Tacoma so I'm worried that it won't reseal properly if I removed it without a replacement gasket.

I think it's the fuel tank vent to the charcoal canister, it closes when the fuel tank is full to shut off the nozzle when your filling your tank at the gas station. It also closes in the event of a rollover to prevent fuel leakage, they typically don't go bad so I don't see a need to replace it.

I think it’s called a rollover vent valve. Also +1 to what @Dm93 said
