Some time last year, drill a hole into my tank in an "attempt" to obtain gas. They left the canister under my truck... And just let all 20 gallons spill into the parking lot.

So what I learned about our tanks, is that it is layered. It consist of natural(white) HDPE on the inside, and an Ethylene vinyl alcohol layer sandwiched between the outer treated(black) HDPE.

I went to the junk yard, found a broken tank, and drilled out a half inch piece.

Carved it to the size of the hole, slap some jbkwik weld on the edges, hammered it in then melted it in place. Melted a thin hdpe on top then sanded it down.

Can't tell that there was ever a drilled hole there.

Thanks for the tank composition description. I had been reading that HDPE had some problems with gas migration through the material.
