I have an 04 taco that was in a head on last year with a ford. body damage was barely noticeable but the frame did get bent. I found a 98 taco on craigslist that is sas'd but has higher mileage and a few issues. the price is super low so I am thinking about buying it and combining it with my truck. the SAS taco is an SR5 with manual everything (locks, windows, mirrors, etc..) I want to pull out the interior of the sas taco and install the full electric interior from my taco.

has anyone ever done a non power to power swap? in my mind it seems doable but I am wondering if any mounts or brackets will be different. I could swap the whole cab but I don't want to have mis-matched paint or have to repaint it, at least not yet.

overall I plan on swapping in my engine as it has lower miles and a 2nd gen supercharger, swapping the full interior (seats, dash, carpet maybe even headliner) and the side view mirrors and anything else that is necessary to make everything functional. I worry though that I'll buy the SAS taco and I'll find that the power mirrors won't mount or the interior door panel is different on a non-powered 98 vs a powered 04.

If my plan comes together I'll end up with a rock solid taco that's sas and has the creature comforts I have become used to. and I'll have a ton of spare parts waiting for when I break stuff

I put 2004 Double Cab Limited door components and wiring into my 1997 PreRunner SR5.

I had to make a whole custom retrofit system to adapt to the factory door harnesses.

How bad was the frame bent?

I hopefully can avoid the having to customize the wiring harness as I can just steal everything from my taco. If I had to got to a point where it looked like I needed to start customizing the wiring I would probably just do a full cab swap

I got it aligned after the accident and the alignment shop was able to get it to track straight but they told me the drivers side is pushed back about an inch. I haven't had it verified by a frame shop but I trust the alignment shop. oddly enough my taco tracks straighter then it ever has now that it has a bent frame lol.

You have to swap the entire dash harness, which I wouldn’t do. There’s enough differences between 1998 and 2004 that it’s not something I’d want to tackle.

But no mounts are torn loose? I think I'd check what's bent. Seems strange a frame rail to get pushed back an inch and still track straight. Believe me, putting the SAS under the newer frame (if straight) is easier than changing EVERYTHING over from your truck.

the alignment shop had a little trouble getting it dialed in but when I drove it I was shocked at how straight it tracked and how tight my steering was. I think I had a really crappy alignment before the accident.

I had thought about swapping dashes but hadn't put much thought in to all the wiring back there. Not sure I really want to mess with all that so maybe a full engine and cab swap is what would need to happen

My frame most likely is bent. I hit a ford F150 head on. I was only going about 15 but he was going about 40. I have a badland tube bumper and it protected everything but since it doesn't crumple my frame took the impact. My core support mount is twisted as well. I have thought about seeing if I can get it straightened bu thaven't looked in to it yet

If you fixed it enough where it's still drivable and it's not all messed up and goes down the road straight I'd just keep driving it or at least use as a beater truck or have as a nice running back up instead of parting it out.
