No, the people weren't in the bed. We rode in the comfort of the cab...

Questioning your door jamb is what seems odd to me :alien:.. Use some engine braking downhill so your brakes don't overheat. Go in the slow lane uphill. If you have a trans cooler you should be fine.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
Your payload is predicated on the data supplied on the sticker on the driver's side door jamb. You'll need to calc the payload by determining the GVWR that needs to include the little yellow sticker placed somewhere on the door jam by Port when add on were placed when it came off the ship or train. This will have the total of the components added, if any, and will need to be subtracted from GVWR. Then you need to factor weight of fuel and passengers. Whatever is left is your payload capacity. Consider that payload should be distributed evenly throughout the bed and try and limit the concentration behind the rear axle because if you have a cghunk of weight at that length of moment, you'll sag the bajeezuz out of the rear suspension.

It's pretty easy calcs when you identify the pertinent Gross and any necessary corrections if you want to get technical about it. Now, how do you know what the weight of your proposed payload is? Have you actually weighed it? You'll obviouslyt need to pay close attention to tire inflation, too. Read the tire's sidewall for max load inflation calcs and for a full load, pay close attention to them. Depending on tires, the sticker may call for 32 psi but the stamp in the tire may allow for 50psi under max load. It just depends on the tire you have.

I don’t think I would do it. Not for that distance. 50 or 100 miles is one thing but 1000 mile road trip and maximum capacity just seems like adding unnecessary wear and tear to me. I’m sure it could do it but why when you don’t have to. Just sacrifice a few extra bucks and rent a small uhaul then you won’t be anywhere close to you max towing. Depending on who and what you have in the can you could even be overloaded. I know others disagree but I wouldn’t do it in my truck.

I drove my truck from Alaska to Colorado with it fully loaded up with no problems. The truck weighed over 1000lbs over the GVWR meaning I had over double the rated payload in it. I also hooked up a 3500lb trailer for most of the trip so the truck was carrying about 2300lbs of payload up and down mountains for a couple thousand miles. Other than 10mpg it wasn't too bad.

Incorrect. Google, vehicle brochures, online truck reviews commonly cite load ratings that are incorrect for your model.
Door jamb minus the deduction on the little yellow sticker, is correct.
