I have been thinking of getting a new truck lately. If I'm getting something newer, it needs to be a full sized.
The Tundra is out, as it hasn't been updated in forever, and gets HORRIBLE MPG's.
The new Rams are nice, but they need to be out longer so I can see they will not rust away like crazy.

That leaves F150, and Silverado/Sierra. I have found some decent Ford Forums, but struggling to find any decent GM forum for trucks. The few I have found see very little traffic and not much going on. Can anybody recommend one?

Please don't tell me how Toyota is the only worth while vehicle in the world, I wont listen to you for the reasons Iv stated.

GM probably doesn't have one since they're trucks don't run long enough to get advice.

My dad bought an F-150 with the ecoboost in it a few years ago, and makes me seriously consider swapping my tacoma every time I ride in or drive it. You almost don't notice the 4,000 pound ski boat behind the truck, and the interior is so friggin quiet.

I have 2 friends with the ecoboost engines. 1 the 3.5, the other has a 2.7. Both are very happy with them, but I keep my vehicles for a while, and I'm afraid of a twin turbo over 100k miles. If I got a Ford, Id most likely go for the 5.0 V8.

Somebody on here mentioned that it's "the opportunities for upgrades and modification that make for a large forum"

Meaning, there's so much that can be done with these trucks that it supports a large community of enthusiasts.

I also like the Ecoboost, they actually do get a good balance of power and fuel economy.

Bumping this thread back to life since I'm considering getting another full size. F150 vs Silverado/Sierra? I've had both in the past.

I bought domestic - all of their truck specific forums suck compared to Toyota's (tacomaworld, t4r, ih8mud). Ford probably has the biggest community.

I went Ram - but if I didn't I would've gone Ford in a second. The new GM trucks just aren't there in terms of quality/features compared to Ram and Ford. If you can wait another MY, the new Ford interiors will be out which offer a newer/better Sync system.

Edit: I forgot F150s are getting a facelift too.

You got a power wagon! Those are badass rigs! A neighbor got a trail boss Z71 with the 6.2L. It looks sweet

Yeah! The PW has been great so far.

You test drive any of the domestics yet?

If you dont mind how much did you pay for the PW before TTL? It looks like you can get a tradesman 2500 and add the PW pkg which might save some $$? The drivetrain is whats important. Whats your thoughts on that? How does it ride? The only neg I can see is the fuel consumption? and maybe the size? How is it coming from the tacoma? The maneuverability is nice in the tacoma. I haven't driven any lately other than and F150 a couple of years ago. Just thinking about it at this point.

For GM forum, I go to gm-trucks.com, lots of info, lots of opinions. Just like here, but no where near as active.

MSRP for mine was $66,490; Price before TTL was $58,932. We don't have a real sales tax in OR but we do have a "privilege tax," so at the end of the day out the door was a less than a grand over this. I also had pretty favorable value on my trade. I could've saved another ~$700 had I gone with Dennis Dillon (well known volume FCA dealer in Boise) but it wasn't worth the drive/trade-in uncertainty at that point. If I had found a 2019 on the lot that I wanted or waited until, say November, discounts in the 15% range are achievable.

You can spec out a Tradesman PW (which essentially don't exist on dealer lots that I've seen but they're easily ordered) with some crazy paint options for around $51,600, which should be negotiable to around $45,769 (Employee Pricing is around 11.5% off MSRP which is generally achievable if you shop around, this doesn't include other rebates). That's A LOT of capability at that price (4.10 gearing, front/rear lockers/winch/sway bar disconnect/etc.).

My PW (spec'ed with most of the "luxury" options and without the extra safety options) is literally my dream truck. It checks every box for pretty much anything I would want in a truck, all from the factory (i.e. under warranty). It rides tremendously well with rear coils, in fact, much smoother than my Taco, which was a DCSB TRD Sport 4x4, 6MT. I really like the fact that I get 3/4 ton components that are essentially under stressed on the PW platform; I'm hoping that offers something in the way of longevity. The only handling negatives are what come with solid front axles. The 6.4L Hemi offers 410hp/429lb-ft and is naturally aspirated - so I never feel like I need extra power. 6'4" bed that's wider than the Taco's handles anything I'd ever need it for. As far as negatives, the size has for sure taken some getting used to. If you live in an area that regularly requires parallel parking, you can pretty much forget about that. Fuel consumption sucks but that's a given considering features. It's more maneuverable than I expected as a wider track width on a solid front axle offers a bit more leeway than IFS would.

You say the Tundra hasn't changed in years. If so, that might be the most reliable model out there. Different strokes for different folks--reliability is #1 for me.

Might be. Might matter if you’re putting 250k+ miles on your truck. Reliability and styling (subjective) are the only things going for the Tundra as it sits today. I’ll always be a Toyota guy but they’ve punted on Tundra updates for way too long.

It just an additional registration fee as a percent of purchase price; the name seems to be some legal nonsense. A handful of other states do it too (Arizona, Alabama, TN, and some others).

I’m a VA native (born and raised in Stafford) and vehicles are wayyy cheaper here between fewer taxes and insurance rates. Localities assessing property tax on vehicles was absolute nonsense.

Yes this is a Toyota Forum and I love my Tacoma. I'm sure if I sold it I would be wishing I didn't for a long time. That being said while the Tundra is a solid truck I have to say if I'm going full size I'm pretty sure I'd be buying Detroit iron! Or Aluminum alloy in the case of the F150 LOL
