When you put a new Tacoma next to a new Silverado or F150, I'm betting there isn't too much difference in physical size. Some, but not much.

You need to determine what you expect from the vehicle 80% of the time, and buy the one that will meet those needs in your range of 'value'. Which shouldn't be out-the-door-what-are-my-payments cost, but an actual shot at TCO, using a realistic estimate of how long you'll keep/use the vehicle.

In my case, a base 5 lug AC 4 cyl. Tacoma met all my needs. What it didn't have that I wanted is being added a bit at a time, and that's not much. Since I view it as a 20 year ride, the TCO was pretty simple.

But the GM/Ford have much more truck like capacity available. So if you want a heftier truck, at least look at a Tundra.

For a full size truck, my money would be on a 2-3 yr old pampered F150.

Cool, what do you do if you don't mind me asking? Yeah it does, that's a decent size hunk of HDPE.

Right on, I am fairly familiar with HD Supply. It's been a good year for the drainage business with all the rain and unseasonably warm temps around here.

I often haul things or tow another vehicle on long trips. 2500 mile round trip to Utah with 8500lbs behind my Tundra for Rock Therapy back in May.

Some new ones caught fire last winter, something about idling too long in cold weather. There was a recall.

No way I could push the silverado 20+? Is there an explanation why silverado is the number 2 best selling truck based on pickup trucks.com? Do people buy because of the brand?

Really probably the wrong forum to get a good impartial review on the Silverado IMO.

Silverado the 4.3L is proven. 1985-current with minimal changes.
F-150 aluminum body... Unknown costs of body repairs and longevity plus turbo maintenance if you're thinking 2.7L ecoBoost.

I would personally lean towards Silverado.

Interior of the F150 is superior IMO. And the square wheel wells on the GM trucks seem to have become more pronounced than ever. Not a fan.

Almost did that the other day with the ecodiesel but then decided to save 5k and go with the Bighorn. That's one damn good looking truck.

I ran the v6 full sized 4x4 for a long time it was not under powered and got 17.8mpg over 4 years. 145,000-176,000 miles. Maybe its just me?

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't considering replicating it on my Big Horn lol
