I am shopping around for a full skid plate that runs all the way to the drive shaft and noticed the good ones come with an oil drain plug hole.. awesome right

But if you're supposed to change the oil filter every time you change the oil then why do they not make an oil filter accessible skid plate?

The bigger (and greater number of) the access hole(s) the weaker (and more expensive) the skid.

I understand the weaker but what's the point in an oil drain hole if theres not a coinciding oil filter hole?

Some of them have the filter access also. Just depends what you want.

Do you know which ones? Ive checked RCI, CBI, and several others but the maximum accessibility I've seen is just the oil drain plug

Can't speak for CBI and others, but I have a RCI plate. You can drain the oil without removing anything and replace the filter by removing the small access plate.

Most manufacturers have them for their 3rd gen plates.

I just want to know specifically what manufacturers because I haven't seen too many that offer both

Just be ready to wait for them. I ordered the trifecta skid plates at the beginning of September and I'm still waiting. Supposedly they're having sourcing issues due to COVID. If it weren't for the fact that they're local and I got them on sale I would have gone somewhere else by now. That said, they are excellent quality.

I have mobtown. I prefer it's design of the oil filter access hole.

Most of the fab shops had sourcing issues last year and they will continue to have longer than usual lead times until they get caught up. I have seen multiple vendors here apologize for the increased lead times, but they are waiting too. You definitely won't be disappointed with the quality though. Mobtown is top tier, I'm a little biased though :anonymous:

Definitely a solid design. The only worry I've had was shearing off the hex heads if I hit a rock or stump at the wrong angle. Haven't had any issues to date with close to 3 years having the ifs skid installed

Definitely a risk with damaging those heads. Fortunately on the mobtown they're positioned to where they may not get as damaged vs RCI where if you drag over that bottom screw the head will for sure be wrecked.

If you get the BAMF three skids they have a drain hole on the front, you have to drop the front one to change the filter. They're 1/4" steel.

In regards to shearing the bolt heads, it was a concern for sure. We went with the design we did for a few reasons. We’ve seen other skids use a countersunk bolt which we felt was worse because if you drag that on a rock and damage the socket portion, you have no good way to back the bolt out. Ours if you shear the head off, simply remove the other three bolts and the door will still come off. Then you can remove the bolt with a pair of pliers backing it out. We also supply grade 8 hardware which takes a lot more to shear. And if you do mangle it but don’t shear it, vise grips will still get it out. We’ve yet to hear anyone shear one to date. We actually had a guy nail a hidden stump in the snow doing 35 mph on the door. I had him mail us the skid because I wanted to see how it held up. No bolts broke, the door and frame was still intact and he actually could have kept using the skid but bought another so he didn’t have to drop the damage skid to do oil changes.

We really appreciate your patience. 2020 will definitely go down in the record books. Did we not contact you? As far as I remember we are caught on all orders for skids. I’ll definitely be checking when I get to the shop in a few hours. But last week we shipped the last orders that were placed or emailed all the local guys.
