10/6/21 Lets make this a discussion thread. Slightly less cringe to the eyes this way...

    8/8/15
    So heres my plan.

I'm a 16 y/o kid in highschool and i want to build a 5VZ-FE for boost and general abuse. So my plan is to slowly by parts from LCE, such as forged pistons, rods, crank etc... Then supe the crap outta the little bugger and see how far i can make it go. Now the purpose of this thread is to have you guys suggest if what im doing (or planning to do) will work and if buying all the parts through LCE is a good idea.

I've done a mod or two
Oh it'll work if you're capable of wrenching well enough to build an engine (takes a lot of skill and patience), but all together just building an engine like the 5VZ to handle boost (before you even get to buy a turbo or S/C and the supporting mods and ECU piggybacks) will end up costing you more than an already boosted or fast vehicle off the used market (like an older 300ZX or an elderly Corvette).

It would be cool and I'm certainly all for it but you might want to take the time to do all of the math, because even a fully built Tacoma or 4Runner isn't going to be a race car.

Yeah I fully realized that there are better options and I'm totally open to them. I just never see the 5VZ ever do great things unlike the 2R engines. More of what I plan to do is buy a 4 banger taco while I build on the V6. Nothing is set in stone and finding a supra would be cool too (turbo fun time lol)

Update: Ive decided to go with hyper (Hypereutectic) pistons from LC engineering. they are far cheaper than forged and still much stronger than cast. These will be included in a master rebuild kit (that also includes better studs). Since i cant find a better alternative im planning on going with forged rods and a forged crank. In the very near future i plan to replace my timing belt, water pump and crank pulley. I'm going to attempt a write up for those who are interested.

Weld your rear diff for more traction. That way you can handle the power of your built 5VZ

Probably not...A detroit locker or aftermarket E-locker would be much more practical.
    Also nice pic lmao :rasta:

Why not just sell or trade with for a V8 Tundra from 01+ with the same trim.. Pre-runner and auto?
Slightly wider and taller but just as daily drivable with almost the same MPG with a huge power boost.

Because I want to prove the point that the 5VZ can be just as easily rebuilt as the 22re 2RZ can. You don't see to many performance 5VZ's do yah? But yah sure do see plenty of 22r's and 2RZ's

Don`t go buying anything till you know just what size parts you need

Unless your buying a Brand New Virgin Block Brand new Empty heads Brand new crank

Then you can fit parts to what ever size you like.

Thats because its pretty well suited already for a bolt on SC, all other mods are extreme overkill and result in failure in other areas.

The 5VZ is a solid engine already without the need, same goes for the 2RZ.
The 22RE on the other had actually benefited from cams and better internals more because of the design.

For all the money spent on the upgrading wont net much gain but will potentially make it stronger is all.
If you do a full build then a full rebuild should be in order as well because building up an old motor is just not as effective.
What HP numbers are you looking to achieve realistically?
    Stock is 190

Well I'm lookin for 300 with a supercharger bigger injectors and a custom tune. Aside from that im gonna have a forged crank and cons and I'm still debating on hyper or forged pistons. (And of course I'm gonna rebuild it). I also plan on custom ground cams unless I can swap some 3VZ cams in. Btw I plan on building the engine in my current driver. While I do that I'll be a cheap single cab work taco.

    If I can't hit 300 s/c'd then I'll go turbo. (That'll take longer though)

might as well give it a true locker or all wheel drive, all that power with the trucks super light end will be disastrous.
