Use a deep socket. There's threads on the valve, it's pretty easy to use a regular wrench to tighten it down.

how are folks doing this with skids

    truck has solid flat skids
JD engine skid and pivots that are taller and touch crossmember

i don’t see a gap to sneak arm to turn valve or place to run hose

Not sure with that skid. With the TRD pro skid, I can put the hose on from the hole in the plate. I then come from the rear to turn the valve, no trans skid plate.

No holes? Take the plate off

I stick the hose on the fumoto through the access hole in my relentless fan skids and then there's just enough room to get my fingers in it to open the valve.

My RCI skid has a hole right below the oil pan drain plug.

Either take it off or buy a different skid :notsure:

I’d just use a hole saw and put a hole where you need it to be - those skids don’t look like they’re getting bashed enough for it to make a difference.

Even if they were getting bashed, a small access hole shouldn't make a material difference.

it has JD pivots and JD skid designed to work with it that is higher clearance. It raises ground to skid height. I don’t think any other parts do that.

pic just from google to show what they look like/flat. Have hit mine.

maybe a hole saw is possible with enough room to reach in and turn the valve. And maybe leave a black rubber hose permanently attached.

i believe its 3/16” steel so i dont know if theres enough room to edge the OD of a round or square cut to make a bolt on access cover with receiving nuts.
No idea how that would be done regarding tooling.

    IMG_4495.jpg

this one appears to have it on what’s probably common 3/16”. A router with bit might do it on wood but not metal.

honestly could probably see if a machine shop could do it. Find a good spot, measure and mark with paint pen. Drop off skid have them do it.

then either find flush bolts so the heads don’t get bashed, or angled conical washers to help them slide. I forget which company sells those for these trucks.

edit: the above access port looks like a whole separate pieces of metal welded on the top backside of the skid

that too may be possible if I verify there’s any clearance around the oil pan

JD skid seems to touch rear crossmember in terms of height which is a good thing showing how tucked up it is. And probably why it comes with that diff piece.

pretty sure it’s also priced better than any other engine skid. While being higher clearance.

So this JD skid doesn't even give you a hole to drain the oil? And it's tied in with the suspension?

it’s solid flat on the bottom. Bolts to the truck with 5 bolts. I believe 14mm socket works, common Toyota size.

not the end of the world to loosen the bolts and take it off every time how I’ve been doing
a valve, way to access it, and not having to do that anymore sounds like it would be nice though.

current drain plug is magnetic so valve would lose that option.

Step bit on the 4 corners and 4.5” angle grinder with a cut off wheel for the sides of a square hole. You could weld captive nuts on tabs to the top of the skid and bolt in a cover plate that sits flush.
