It's cool. Thought I'd at least check them out. I'm getting the regular filters for 5 bucks and change. Just wanted to pass along the fact that they were available.

All this talk about being a girl and hand tightening...

Ok, so...I am a girl. I hand tighten my filter. And yes....even I can't get it off without a filter wrench.

    So - don't feel so bad. :D;)

Installed the Fumoto F-103 yesterday when I did my oil change. Got it for $23 USD with free shipping from Vancouver, Canada, on eBay.

Ordered two LC-10 clips from quickvalve. $2 ea plus $10 shipping to Canada.... go figure. I trust the actual valve and the tucked up location, but I'll feel better when the clip is on. I drive through a lot of tall grass fields and low brush in the summer.

Oh! .... and I changed to Mobil 1 full synthetic and a Mobil M1-102 oil filter. The oil was on sale at CT ($32 CAD), but the filter at $15 CAD cost half the price of the oil! (5th oil change, the first 4 were free at the dealer, but he's too far away and a PITA to make appointments with.) The truck is at 40,000 kms/25,000 miles. I immediately noticed that the valve train ticking is gone. I wonder if that says anything about the quality of dealer oil.

I've had this setup for over 7 years with no issues. You're good. You don't need any clip. The cross member protects it well from a direct hit.

As I read that I expected it to say you could get it off by hand. LOL. I was about go do some hand exercises.

I'm not spinning them off one-handed, but yes, no tools to remove the filter on my truck. I do changes with a warm engine, other than that maybe you're still installing them too tight.

Nothing wrong with using tools though lol.

I bought the Fumoto F-103 and EZ-103 drain plugs for comparison. (There are 4 Toyota products in my household; so, neither will go to waste.) I'm leaning towards the EZ plug as my 1st choice. It has a built-in o-ring but you can install a gasket as I did on my wife's Lexus. The big difference is the opening. The Fumoto allows a 3mm bolt at one end but does not go through. The EZ valve accommodates a 4mm screw all the way through with a little wiggle room to spare. Next time I change the oil in the Lexus, I will move the EZ plug to the Taco and see how it does there.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I have a whole bunch of filter wrenches of different kinds.

Sometimes the easiest way to get a filter that was put on with stupid strength is a Phillips screwdriver.

That being said its pretty rare I can't get them by hand and the Taco v6 is just dandy for oil changes :)

    You guys cray.

I wish you guys lived close. I'd invite you over to remove my oil filter by hand, just to see if you could.

Maybe I'm just to strong and hand tighten it to much. :D

I've honestly never tried to take my filter off by hand.

I like to drain the oil hot. So hot that after I loosen the filter with this
    [IMG]
I have to use a rag to take it off by hand.

Since this thread is about the fumoto... I have one and I think it's great for draining the oil hot and not dropping the hot drain bolt or burning my hand with hot oil.

I have hit it 4 wheeling though even though it's a good 1/2" or more above my pelfreybilt skid plate.
Fortunately, although it did bend my oil pan a bit, nothing's leaking and everything still works fine.
In hindsight, I probably should have gotten one without a nipple.
The only thing I can figure is that the skid probably deflected a bit and a rock that was just the right shape made it up there to contact the nipple of the fumoto.

This as per my last post:

I didn't say you were a girl, but either you are putting them on too tight or let the evidence speak for itself.

Maybe try only a half turn after the gasket touches. I have the 2.7 liter 4 banger and I have to crawl under to get the filter. At least yours is on top if you have the V6.

Reach up wrap both hands on it and twist like a MFer.

    Love the Fumoto...

I put one on at 25K miles after my Toyota love expired.

Now have 78K...no drips/leaks/failures. Change oil & filter every 5K...it's a breeze. It does take longer to drain than the stock plug...but for me, this is a minor issue.

Also, I used this seal washer instead of the stock Fumoto washer...

lol, just trying to get a frame of reference that's all.

So last night I did my oil change with 54,673, and yes, with two bare hands, clean filter, I was able to twist it off. Next change I'll go back to the filter wrench, but it's nice to know in a pinch I can do it. :D

I love my fumoto oil drain valve. It makes changing the oil so easy and I save time! Love it!
