I just put a wrench on the valve body itself. Just snug it up tight as it's brass.

So not too concerned about getting the correct torque? I thought maybe using a crescent wrench on the valve body itself might be safer as I don't know how the Fumotos are put together and wasn't sure if torquing on the hex part was safe or not....

I just want to cut down on scratches in my paint. Who knows what they use to wash your truck with.

No DO NOT torque the red area. Use a wrench for the squared off area just above the red area. I did that on my first valve and snapped the threads off inside the valve. Hand tight has done the trick for the last 3 years. FYI it works great and I highly recommend it.

Because 99.999999% of car dealerships reuse their old dirty water and don't maintain the brushes. They're not making money off of car washes. Even my last mercedes I wouldn't let the dealership wash my car because my MB master-tech friend called it the "scratch wash".

If you care about your paint and are avoiding swirl marks I'd avoid any mechanical car wash at all costs. Touchless is a decent option especially if you live in the salt belt, but hand washing with the 2 bucket method is the best.

One bucket works just fine for me. Thanks for the advice though.

Your sig says you own a black tacoma. I highly recommend the two bucket method if that is the case, it's really no extra effort on your part. But I respect that it's your truck, do whatever you like!

Thanks for the suggestion. It is just allot easier for me to lug one bucket full of soapy water to town when I wash my truck than lugging a 2nd bucket full of clear or soapy water whatever people puts in it. I use Duragloss on my truck so the blinding wet looking shine hides what hairline scratches are in my paint.

If I don't trade it off in a year or so I'm going to get it Line-X'ed so I won't have to bother keeping it polished.

In the instructions it states: 4. Torque: Tighten the valve with a crescent wrench on the body of the valve* an additional 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Do not over tighten.

*Do not use a wrench on the hex head if present

I think spinning a wrench for like 10 seconds once every few months is better than constantly thinking this aftermarket valve will fail and dump all of the oil out one day.

I've had my Fumoto valve for almost 2 years with no issues. I don't seriously off road, just farm or gravel road to my favorite spots, but I really like mine. My biggest complaint is that it takes a bit more time to drain. Recommended.

Yes. I have the fumoto with the short nipple and no problem connecting a hose to it with the Pro skid plate.

I'm not sure about this particular product but I have seen engine, tranny, diff plugs fail/fall out while wheeling. Having a dickiedoo hanging out probably isn't ideal but I guess you're not safe either way...

Yeah having a bad day for sure. Tranny and diff were on the rubicon and the engine was on the Dusy.

Dusy guy whittled a stick and jammed it in the hole, filled his motor and wheeled for three more days. Talk about a trail hack.

Thanks for the info!!! I don't recall seeing any instructions with the valve when I purchased it and I neglected to check the Fumoto site for install instructions (my bad).

No problem. To be honest I can't remember if there was a small leaflette with the valve or I ran across them on their site. Here is a link to the instructions on the Fumoto site: Standard & SX Fumoto Valves
