My buddy has a brand new f-150 fx4 and he is supper proud. He said I can go anywhere your taco can so I had him offroading shortly after. Not known to me at the time was he had one of the new insurance tracking units installed. Well long story short that unit is going back and his new truck has just much mud all over it as mine. Guessing they will charge you an arm and a leg if your trying to get the discount and enjoy working your truck.

They basically only track your acceleration, braking, drive time, and speed. You shouldn't be off-roading while your under your trial period with the device installed

Good news it won't hurt you, just end up with little to no discount

Yup, it's recording hard braking, aggressive acceleration, driving AM hours 12-6 m. You can login and check your driving habits. I had few red flags as hard draking don't even recall doin it, so it's very sensetive.

agreeing to install a tracker essentially throws out all your rights to privacy and data collected can be used against you. Has anyone read George Orwell's 1984

I have Travellers, and the unit does track all kinds of stuff and flags certain behaivior (hard braking, acceleration, etc.), but they (Travellers) ONLY look at how many miles you will likely drive annually. I can't speak for other ins. companies, but I have read forums of people with other ins. saying they drive like crazy and it had no impact on how much discount they got. Only miles driven. I would do some searching on users of the particular ins. co. since it can be a pretty big discount.

You could also just take it out during OR. Most just require it has to be in for so many days or a % of the period. Obviously if you take it in for repair work, they may have to take it out to use the port. I had the mechanic not put mine in snugly and was out for a month. The ins. co just sent me a letter telling me to check it.

It amazes me how many companies are basically buying into our private information, and how many people jump at the chance. Once that box is open it's nearly impossible to close back up.

The info gathering is getting over the top. Between the event data recorders, On Star, Snapshot, GPS tracking, somebody is watching your every move.

No one really is watching your every move. However this info being stored could allow it to get into the wrong hands and someone then could watch your every move. Truly is a fine. However I personally think it's a bit overwhelming and I try to stay as low key as possible. Some times less is more

Nobody is watching......but they have the capability to look at our history though Social Media and all types of Information gathering from cloud based entertainment selections, to our browsing patterns and how fast we were going at any particular time. The information can work against us or for us,

I keep my Facebook locked down and tight. 45 friends. At one time I had over 1000. I closed that account and opened a new one and am VERY picky when it comes to adding "friends" I also delete all posts made over six months ago and keep it current. I don't need a yearly view of my habits , where I eat, When I eat, What I eat,,,,Where I play, What my vehicles look like. I am more open on a Forum than my own Social Media Accounts.

I disagree. Devices that track the time of day you drive, mileage, acceleration, your braking rates, the times you exceed 80 mph, Etc. is a form of watching how you drive down the road. You get into a wreck, and they can use this info as ammo. Insurance companies are getting more and more controlling.

How I drove with the device in my truck and how I normally drive were on two total opposite sides of the spectrum. I made sure I can get as much of a discount as possible. Once it's out I drive how I normally do, they aren't tracking me once I send the device back

I'm sorry... But is this tracker device something your insurance policy provider makes you install on your vehicle if you claim you won't use your truck off-road in order to get a lower insurance rate? I'm slightly confused... I'm Canadian... Help

I feel the same way about people gathering data on me and would never give that information away. The truck logs a bunch of data that Toyota can download in case of a lawsuit or crash. I don't know all of what it captures but at the minimum I bet they use that information for design and sales.
