Still working on changing out the lighting on the 3rd gen Tacoma’s
But only way to make it brighter would be figuring out the dimmer wiring on the radio so it doesn’t dim the lights
Never heard anything or looked into it...

    Working on it
I know how many Leds are needed for the swap (full interior) just waiting on my Guinea pig lol

Which parts? The switches can be altered pretty easily.

What do you mean by having the headlights in “auto” mode? Set on the stalk, or the “auto” push button?

And you should be able to disconnect the dimmer wire I believe and have the radio stay in day mode all the time. I’d have to take a look, but I’m fairly positive this is doable

There is a way to intercept the headlight signal to the head unit to make it think your lights are off. I made a harness to do just that, with some help from people here on the forum. It will eventually connect to a button so I can toggle it.

Caveat, I don't have auto headlights so I don't know if things will be different but I want to say they shouldn't; you're literally just splicing into a single wire that communicates binary state (headlights off or on).

I don't have auto headlights but here's my 2 cents. It seems your truck is activating your headlights as if it were dark when In auto mode. The sensor is in the top right hand corner of your dash, I heard of a windshield sticker or something placed on top of the sensor causing this problem

Silly suggestion. Try memorizing the position of the buttons.

Say you want Audio, put your finger on the left side at the top of the row of buttons. Then count down you get to the buttons location.

On the plus side you don’t have to look at the panel.

the problem is the orange wire coming out of the rear speaker section. it is not connected. someone might have added an aftermarket amp. the harness they used did not have the orange wire coming out of the rear harness so its not connected. you have to tap into that from the factory harness. if you still have an issue with this we can keep the dialog going.

some harness for aftermarket amps do not include this wire in the rear speaker section. this must be connected in order for the buttons you are asking about to be lit, the volume and side buttons.

I think his  is more that this thread is from 2018. But the lights around his button work just fine when the headlights are on, so that would mean that wire is still intact. His problem is actually a "feature" on these trucks. The radios button illumination is tied to the dash lights. No dash lights = no radio lights. The only way to have the radios lights on is to turn on the headlights, but when doing that it dims the screen making it hard to see in the day.

Its a shitty feature, but its normal.
