It may have been mentioned already, but the scoop makes an awesome spot for a small light bar.

What's the function of the PRO grille that everyone swaps to? Or is it just for aesthetics?

I’m already married, I guess I get to save my money! Sweet!

She probably wouldn’t even notice it. In fact I wager our home she wouldn’t. She would have to see a before photo and I would HAVE to pull her out to show her what I’ve done...

It was developed for racing, by Toyota Racing Development. I’m guessing the cubic airflow disrupters help get the fuel-air mixture swirling, but it could also be that is helps with laminar dynamics. One thing I know for sure, is it’s very high tech and Toyota engineers are keeping pretty quiet about it.

I’ve noticed that the scoop is solid plastic and non-functional. But it looks like it unscrews easily. Has anyone removed it and replaced it with an actual inlet to allow air flow into the engine bay for cooler dense air inside the engine compartment? Would doing this help with even slight performance? Or not?

    A few points:

-Air is drawn from the passenger wheel well, not the engine compartment.

-An open scoop, as is, would create a back pressure and diminish the effectiveness of your radiator by reducing airflow. The scoop needs to face the other way, if you want more engine cooling.

-Also, get ready for the dirtiest engine bay ever.

It does add structure to the hood eliminating any hood flutter at high speed. The non scoop hood flutter is very noticeable, especially the ones with not enough foam on the ribs

I don't think there's any function to the scoop. Purely for looks. I wanted to get the off-road but the Sport 4wd I got was $3k cheaper than all the off-roads due to an end of he year sale, so I decided to get this one instead. Happy with my choice. I think the amount of view that the scoop blocks is not too bad and when most guys end up "leveling their truck" anyway, some of that view ends up getting blocked. I have a 2.5" front and 3" rear lift so I actually gained some view back by creating more rake. There are some days I really like the way the scoop makes the whole truck look. But in the past two years I've never needed a locker nor crawl control so all in all it worked out well saving the money on the Sport than shelling out for extras I didn't really need.

Mine will become a smooth panel or possibly gain a vent. Either way, the bulge will make room for a larger heat exchanger on the Eaton TVS.

He was Mcfly on his own. He didn’t need it. Every time I open the garage I think that scene.

As I recently found out, it also is a way to :boink:pro owners by calling their truck a sport.
