It's the equivalent of a spoiler on Civic.

I understand your point, but my point is the spoiler is intended to make the car look cooler.

In the case of the R series it's to provide rear downforce for a high performance front wheel drive car. Obviously no one is going to drive it like that on public roads (I hope), but I took my 350z with less HP and torque to the track all the time and I imagine some R series owners would do the same. At 140+ in a FWD I'd definitely want the rear downforce.

So you don't think I am dogging Civics, I could have said the same thing about some performance cars like Lamborghinis.....they also compromise performance for looks.

You could argue that they are performance minded, but I can tell you that looks matter more to their ability to get that top dollar.

Taco people sit around concerned with the pros and cons of one relatively small fake hood scoop.

The Tundra Pro guys gotta justify two levels of fake hood scoop. One is nearly full width! Can’t imagine the butt-dyno increases from the laminar airflow on this puppy!

Someone should add another small scoop to the top of their Taco scoop.

Maybe use a dryer vent? :notsure:

Why do you want rear downforce at high speeds with a front drive car?

To maintain control. Without some downforce the back will spin out.

It would be for stability at high speeds, during braking and to reduce oversteer, but on most production cars, the down force these wings and front spoilers produce is not measurable.

Not enough people would be willing to pay $35k for a Honda Civic unless it has a wing, and a R sticker.......even if it had the same engine and other performance upgrades. The looks matter to allot of people .

    I count myself among them.

TL;DR so apologies if this has already been mentioned. Toyota specifically said they wouldn't open the scoop as it actually makes engine cooling worse. They claimed that they did tests with the scoop open. So therefore, pure looks. The only thing I could see using it for is for LED lights. I might do that some day and make sure it has some kind of cool Knight Rider/Cylon red light mode just for the heck of it.

Is good at collecting bugs and dust/dirt. Besides that is just as good as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

I liked the Tundra two scoops so much, I had my Taco modded the same way.

This is good info. I have not see that before. That said, I did make mine functional because car wash soap and slush would trail back along the hood or sploosh on the windshield. With a quick trim, no more (minor) problem.

They are building a special dyno for me. The regular set up went off the charts.

I was thinking the primary scoop might rob a little power from the smaller scoop. Either way......it’s clearly the most powerful Tacoma yet. Slap a cold-air intake on there, pump some 92 in ‘er, and fill the tires with Nitrogen, and the thing is going to launch!

I think an faux air intake on the roof to match would be the cat's meow.
