I am looking for analytical descriptions of personal experiences with the performance of truck modifications (more specifically lifts and bigger tires).

I'm fairly set on getting a 2" front-and-back lift and 33" tall skinnies, but I'm concerned that 3-4" total lift is not going to wow me and I'll just end up going bigger and/or adding bumpers (seems to be a path many have taken). Regardless of whether I actually lift my truck (probably wouldn't be until spring anyway), I'm still interested in the answer to my question. Like I said in the edits to my original post, I will ultimately need to find what works best for me, but that doesn't mean that the experiences of others is not interesting to me.

    -Ground clearance.
-Better sight lines for driving in traffic
-Easier to get in and out of truck if you’re a big person.
-More room for DIY oil changes and undercarriage maintenance.
-Less miles showing on your ODO compared to stock tire sizes......

Anyone else ever read an op and then look at their location to make sure you’ll never be stuck on a trail behind that nitwit?

Well i know if we had 33’s i wouldve attempted to drive over the log and if we had 35’s it would’ve been cake. Sorry i dont have real world experience with a lift to help answer ur question better, but this is a real world experience when i didn’t have enough clearance stock.

That being said we have done some crazy shit in those stock Forest Service pickups (Rams, silverados and f150’s) which has truly given me an appreciation for the stock capabilities. Also, its funny how far you’ll push a truck when its not yours...can you say pinstripes?!

A hitch skid solved the departure issues for me. $100 or less including a rattle can versus $500-THOUSANDS of dollars and a rattle can.

Just remember a lift does absolutely nothing on an IFS to add additional articulation or travel, it just defines where in that travel arc your static height is. The only way to add articulation is to replace one of the two suspension arms. Otherwise, all you are doing is sacrificing an inch of suspension down-travel for every inch of clearance the lift gives you.

Down-travel is critical up front because you probably don't have a locker up there and lifting a tire means you're not laying power to the wheel with traction. IMO the best lift on these trucks barring going LT is a 1-2" with skinny 33's and an upper arm (which adds articulation to gain a bit of that down-travel back). That will give you 2-3" on the frame and an inch on the diffs.

It's pretty simple. Bigger tires roll over shit more easily than smaller tires do. 20+ years of wheeling has told me this. There's a reason even mountain bikes are using larger tires. The lift is just a means to an end. If I could run 40s with no lift, I'd be rocking 40s.

No, actually quite the opposite. Studies have shown that lifts and bigger tires actually make the “downstairs department” further from the ground than they are now.

Big tires to run over bigger shit= Good
Must lift to fit bigger tires=One way
Must cut truck to fit tires=Another way
Body lift for clearance only = 1 issue solved
Bigger tires for lifting axles up=1 issue solved
Some say a manual transmission will save us in a Zombie apocalypse, even without fuel in their trucks.
