Where did you get the red tubing and what did you use to make the final black piece.

    Awesome mod!:D

This won't make any difference - RAM air won't help with a fuel injected engine. It may provide slightly cooler (and more dense) intake air to the engine - but I doubt it would have any significant effect on horsepower. The reality is that most hood scoops have always been more about looks than functionality. Even back in the muscle car era when all the killer cars had scoops - they never really did much. If the hood scoop was sealed really well around the air filter/carb intake it might give a very slight boost in pressure - but nowhere near what a turbo or SC does. The biggest benefit any of the hood scoops gave was cooler intake air for the engine vs. cars with non-scooped hoods. That gave only a very slight HP gain - and in many ways was not worth the trouble of water, dirt, bugs and other shit getting into the scoop. Now having said all that - I love hood scoops - which is why I got a 2010 DBL CAB, 4x4, SB w/ TRD Sport package. It doesn't do anything - but it looks cool - so don't worry about trying to make it functional - because a "functional" hood scoop is insignificantly effective at best.

Has anyone tried cutting out the small black plastic piece beside the headlight to use as a ram air source?

2nd gen ? 04 tacoma, cut down the nozzle height of the windshield washer reservoir and cut slightly around the headlight perforation for optimum forced air ,blocking off the factory hole the factory intake sucked air from.... Completely covering the heat shield on a 57 series K&N intake ....even go so far as to cover with 1500*F heart tape.covered the intake arm alone with 4 rolls of the same tape gave the motor suuuuch a better tone in WOT

Actually the full power band but esp WOT is night and day.Not so much of a raspy tone whatsoever

The only thing you will attract is more dirt and debris into the engine bay. If you think the engine bay is dirty now, open that scoop up and it will be covered in dirt. Ask the guys on the SRT/Ram forums about that, and theirs is functional.

Also IIRC, the 2012 scoop is much lower, and therefore less functional if it was ever made to be.

Volant makes a air box for the 1st gen. Then with a little engineering you can probably make a air scoop. Probably cheaper then the Volant air scoop itself.

Would you really want a ram-air effect? It may cause a lean condition. I'd aim at just lowering air temps.

The scoop is in the boundary layer of airflow. It would have to be raised or possibly the hood raised from the rear to "scoop" better.

I remember a professor telling a story of an aircraft with tell tales installed to test airflow, and actually seeing some pointing forward on a forward moving aircraft! Crazy.

Another thing to consider is convergent and divergent ducts. Probably not so big a deal to reciprocating engines as it is with turbines.
Also check out how air cycle machines work to cool air in airliners.

Material heat conduction, negative pressure, positive pressure, ambient pressure, turbulence, there's so much involved. I think most intake companies, although put thought into their designs, ultimately get lucky when something works.

If you have a hood to play with, or want to experiment, I say go for it. Tinkering is a huge part of the auto hobby, some people have forgotten this.

Edit to add, could play with vortex generators too.

How did those parts affect your engine both individually, and together?
More/less MPG? More/less HP? What about at 2K RPM cruising speed? (Since anyone hardly ever goes to 4500 where companies say their gains are)

I haven't dyno'd it yet. It does quieten the intake down a bit then without the air scoop. I mostly got it to enhance the TRD supercharger with it's upgrades: 2.8" stealth pulley, Gibson cat back, and upgraded fuel pump setup.

Oh I see, I didn't realize you had a blower. Then the gains probably wouldn't pertain to NA engines.

No I don't have the blower just yet but I'm in the process. NA wise with the scangauge the intake temp are at ambient temp which is the coolest you can get at cruising speed, cooler then the stock OEM setup (according to my scangauge readings). During cold winter days or nights is when it really helps the most.

Blower =/= supercharger? And what are the gains? I understand the temperature does read differently, but what does that do for you? I mean of course the first things I asked about, MPG and HP.
