    2001 Tacoma 2.7L Funny Idle

Long time listener, first time caller.

I had the battery disconnected for a few months while truck was in sick bay. Work performed was new valve cover/ spark plug tube gaskets, new plugs and new ignition coils. After a prolonged delay from broken bolts, I got her back together and she started right up. Only issue I noticed right away was a high idle. Drove it around and while coming to stop the idle initially drops down near the 1000 rpm mark but then starts surging up toward 1800 rpm. Up and down up and down.

I researched this issue and found one possible remedy is to reset the ignition computer or whatever. Procedure was to turn key on and off 3 times, press brake 2x, pat your head and rub your belly. Ha ha, I cant remember the exact procedure but every place i saw it called out the complete procedure required an automatic transmission (one of the last steps was to put into drive, then back into park or something). Also said it might take a hundred miles or so to "relearn" the ignition settings. A few hundred miles so far and no improvements.

Is there a known procedure to do this with a manual?

I also did a quick vacuum leak test with starting fluid. Nothing discovered other than don't do this while air conditioner is on. Smells a bit in cab.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here or is there another issue to look at?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I think… drive for 3 minutes not allowing throttle to close. Pull over and let truck idle for 3 minutes with throttle closed. Repeat 2 more times.
