    Absolutely!

    Shortly after I put on my second chevron, it was summer time and all the Naval Academy cadets were on their summer “deployments,” we had a group come to our squadron. On this unnecessarily humid Florida summer day I was on the flight schedule and we were taking the cadets up 2 at a time for some shark watch flights along the Florida coast. Our Plane Captain escorted the 2 cadets out to the aircraft and I greeted them outside the rotor arc and escorted them in to the aircraft. Since I was the junior NCO on the flight I was going to be the designated swimmer so i was in my wetsuit and dive boots. The hoist operated and TSO operator was our division chief (actually a senior chief) who was retiring in 2 months. Dude had been in the navy for like 27 years and had seen Vietnam duty back in the day. He was salty AF. One of the cadets demanded a salute from both of us as they boarded the helo. Chief Tate who actually looked and sounded like Sam Elliott slowly removed his helmet and gave the cadet the “what the fuck did you just say” stare and proceeded the escort the cadet back to the hangar by his ear. All I heard was “you son of a bitch, you’re a mother fucking college student and you’re not flying on my aircraft.”
