you can see where "the local guy" that converted the sword into a knife used some old fittings from some (probably broken, discarded, salvaged, or stolen) web gear for the scabbard

the old man used this thing during his time in Korea as well. he replaced it with a Marbles hunting knife for Vietnam.

the whole story on this knife was basically this:
jungle, Japanese, shooting, getting a bayonet in his right calf, shooting that guy, Japanese officer with a fucking sword, using a tree to stay away from dude with sword, eventually killing dude with sword using the same bayonet that just got stuck in his leg, train to Rangoon for wounds.

    my brother has the bayonet.
    my father owns the pistol.

grandpa is buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

thought I'd share part of my day.

I just got drunk-dialed by a former student. it quickly turned into a seriously cool conversation about everything from dating to doctrine and hyperwarfare.

it's a hell of a compliment when someone remembers you.

philosophers, religious leaders, and drunks have searched for thousands of years for the answer to that first question.

and to the second part of that question:
there aren't many neighbors... and the trees, livestock, and random wildlife don't seem to understand my sense of humor

I mean, I stapled a meme to a fencepost the other day and not a single deer laughed at it. they didn't even piss an "LOL" in the snow

Most of mine start with “this crap wouldn’t happen if people would just leave me alone.”

Thats cool. I lost track of all my students, some were more memorable than others.

I had to chuckle at that..but deer are ungrateful too! feed them corn and they dont even appreciate it...
