Meh, maybe at first. The Exocet caught the pomes off guard at the beginning of the Falklands war and they quickly adapted strategies to mitigate it.
We will not talk about the magnesium alloy that ships of that era were built with because that was a shit show for sure.

We got lasers now.... pew pew goes the laser...

lol def not a Stryker you some bitch!

Seems a lot of light guys hate them. Say what you will, I've taken a shit load of hits in a Stryker and I'm a believer as long as they are used in the right environment.

I fuckin’ walked most everywhere except for helicopter rides and convoy bullshit in mraps and shit cars. All that high falutin’ shit is beyond me.

EDIT: just looked at some pictures and it sure as hell looks like a Stryker to me. So, neener neener.

I've been heavy, light and Stryker. The reality is, at least in Iraq, no one was light. I'd rather been in a Stryker then an MRAP or HMMWV. I used all three down range, MRAPs are fire traps with one gun. HMMWVs don't take hits for shit and again only one gun sticking out. Afghanistan may be different but I have no basis as I haven't been. In an urban environment, when you consider the number of troops you can put on the ground, number of guns sticking out (making it less of a soft target) and survivability... I was a fan. I may be biased though, we fielded them, then took them on their first deployment. Followed by two more with the same unit. All Iraq with roughly 8- 12 man crews. Second tour was the only time we ran skeleton crews (5 guys) since EFPs and deep buried were fucking every platform in theater up. At least that way if a squad went down, we had reserve dudes for the next clearance or IED response mission. Once they upgraded to a self stable RWS (remote weapons system) we could hold our own pretty well. Felt bad for the CLPs, again soft targets, that were targeted pretty heavily since they had one person manning a .50.

Every platform and type of unit has its place, as long as its used accordingly by the senior leadership.

Iraq we had Humvees, Bradley's and MRAPs and it was great. Going somewhere mostly on small roads and dirt along canals, Humvees all day. Going to ruin a neighborhoods real estate value, Bradley's. Larger roads where larger IEDs and EFPs hung out, MRAPs. Each type of vehicle had its purpose and worked well when you chose wisely. A lot of maintenance for a 16 man platoon though. Afghanistan we got the new double vee hull Strykers which took underside IED hits way better than the originals. We replaced our crappy original RV variants with ICV with RWS and would roll with a 50, a 249 and two 240s mounted on each truck. Eight wheel drive made for pretty good offroad performance, especially in the wet seasons and the RPG cages made them really hard to roll over.

Sitting here in mandatory quarantine (post-commercial travel before a class starts at end of the month) and our lunch was dropped off. I feel like they have bad news for us or something

Or our quarantine was extended (paid for 2 weeks of nothing to include per diem. Looking at $3500 in food money alone so can’t complain)

oh and re-enlisted last spring to take me to just over 20...done after that lol

Does the Navy not to indef? That was my only option with my last reenlistment. Of course the Army may have done away with that too, I've been retired now for five years and lots of changes were already happening.

lol yup! You even look older, how is this news to you?!

April 15' for me, scary at first but one of the best decisions we ever made. Up until 17 years in, I had planed to compete for CSM. Once I decided against that, things got way more relaxed and had less work related stress. My BN CSM was a complete jackass and knowing it really didn't matter anymore, I could tell him he was an idiot and didn't care about the troops. I don't regret my service, but it got to be a very love hate relationship the last few years.

I suppose that makes sense. My last was as an E7 at 10 years and I think that was the reason. I was past any forced RCP points and it was a way to keep guys in. Who knows, retention policy and regulations have always been pretty convoluted, at least in the Army.
