Paternal grandfather was on the third wave and had no shame in telling anyone who asked that he was scared out of his mind. Said that he thought Africa was terrible but when he saw the beaches and even moving inland he realized that the worst was yet to come and hardened his heart in preparation for it.

Went with him and my father to a 1ID reunion and the place was filled with old guys. My father put his arm in front of my chest when we entered the dining room and asked me what I could see. I didn’t understand the question but he answered for me.

“Every man sitting in front of you is a stone cold killer. Not one of them got through what they did without taking a life.”

Thanks to all the brave gentlemen (and many not-so-gentle) who risked to much (or all) so that this flag wouldn’t fly anymore.

Let’s keep the grandchildren out of it, wouldn’t want to sully a day that deserves so much respect.

If you have never been to the beach’s of Normandy or seen how much the French respect the Allied forces, I would highly recommend it. What they did and accomplished is truly awe inspiring.

Buddy of mine has a great Thailand story. He calls it the “Why Thailand has the best customer service” story. To keep it short, he was in Iraq for a year and had a 3 day sit in Bangkok on his rotation back to the states. While there he went to a highly recommended “shop” that the hotel concierge referred him to. He ended up picking 2 girls and they returned to his hotel room. During the course of the evening one of the girls became ill and the other girl called the mamasan and within 10 minutes they sent a replacement girl to his room creating his claim that Thailand has the best customer service.

Much better to see and hear him tell it though.

I saw some stuff in Thailand that I would have sworn were physically impossible. I'm sure anyone who has been to the shows there understands. I'll leave it at that...lol

Hell, I was involved in stuff outside the gate at NKP that I thought was physically impossible until I was drunk enough.

If I'm not mistaken @scocar has had the pleasure of meeting and working with that fine gentleman in the middle holding the flag.

My grandfather was a cargo pilot from ‘42 to ‘45 in the European theater, then later Air Force for the Berlin Airlift. He said that when they first started hauling supplies to troop positions in Germany it was surprising how many people there were that hated the Nazis and were happy to see them. He’d say to me “I bet you every one of those duplicitous bastards still had their flag at home because they forgot to burn it before we got here. Never trust a Nazi - just because they ain’t flying the flag anymore doesn’t mean they still ain’t Nazis.”
