I said a dirty bomb is not nuclear, that it doesn't use the fission of atoms to produce explosive force.

I think we are talking circles around each other about the exact same thing.

chemical critical point event. chemically initiated, probably an aerosolized powder.

basically, a fuel air explosion. nothing else does that in open air with that sort of effect

Haven’t been on too much. Maybe every few days and then not really even reading much. The explosion peaked my interest.

As of 2012 (very quick google search) 54% of the population was Muslim. So it’s very likely a goodly number of those killed were Muslim.

Who knew there was so much agriculture in Lebanon. And who knew they needed to stockpile that much fertilizer next to a "fireworks" factory?

It’s a port district with zoning laws that either don’t exist or aren’t followed. No need to try and attach some sort of boogeyman to it.

On August 3, 1944, on a god-forsaken Pacific island, he sacrificed his life so that others might live . . .
Born on May 21, 1920, in Centralia, Illinois, Robert L. Wilson was raised on his parents' farm, graduated from high school, and in September of 1941, just three months before the attack on Pearl Harbor, enlisted in the Marines.
"None of my boys believed in waiting for the draft. They volunteered,” Wilson’s father later said about his sons who had all worked on the family farm during the Great Depression and later went into the service.
Assigned to 2nd Pioneer Battalion (Engineers), 18th Marines, Wilson fought in some of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific: Guadalcanal, Tarawa, and Tinian.
During his two years fighting against the Japanese, the Marine infantryman experienced the horrors of bloody beach landings, the terror of protracted jungle warfare, and the constant fear of being maimed or killed. But he never wavered.
The trauma, however, took a devastating toll on him and his buddies, making many of them feel emotionally detached or “unhinged."
As fellow Marine Eugene B. Sledge put it in his classic WWII memoir “With The Old Breed,” "We always had the feeling that sailors looked on Marine infantrymen as though we were a bit crazy, wild, or reckless.”
"Maybe we were,” Sledge added. "But maybe we had to develop a don’t-give-a-damn attitude to keep our sanity in the face of what we were about to endure."
On August 3, 1944, nine months after having been wounded at Tarawa, the 76-hour battle that resulted in nearly 4,000 American dead and wounded, Wilson, a newly-promoted PFC, was again fighting against heavily entrenched, fanatical Japanese defenders when his unit came under a blistering attack.
With men getting hit and dropping all around him, Wilson "daringly inched toward a pile of rocks where Japanese troops were supposed to be hiding” and waited for his buddies to join him.
Seconds later, an enemy hand grenade landed among him and his fellow Marines.
Shouting for his buddies to get down, PFC Wilson, in total disregard for own safety, jumped on the grenade, absorbing the full impact of the explosion. The 23-year-old Marine, who had suffered and sacrificed so much over the past two years, died instantly.
For saving the lives of his fellow brothers in arms, Robert Wilson was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
    Postscript:
A year later, on July 26, 1945, PFC Wilson’s mother was presented her son’s MOH at a ceremony in the family’s hometown.
In March 1946, the USS Robert L. Wilson (DD/DDE-847), a US Navy Gearing-class destroyer, was commissioned in honor of the fallen Marine. The vessel went on to receive three battle stars during the Vietnam War.
Today we pay tribute to Robert Wilson, his family, and all those who served, sacrificed, and died in the Pacific during WWII. We will never forget you!
    Freedom isn’t free.

This man must have been a bad motherfucker. Enlisted in September '41, put a Purple Heart in his back pocket in November '43, and died a hero as a PFC after 35 months in the Corps. He definitely punched at least one shiny.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
First, Sharia Law has nothing to do with martyrdom or finding virgins in heaven. Second, the original text of the Quran doesn't say anywhere that a martyr (read, not suicide. The Quran also doesn't use the term suicide anywhere in the book) will receive virgins in heaven. What it does say is someone who suffers in faith will receive rewards, just like the Bible does.

Just like the works of the Bible, the Hadith is a group of texts that are believed to have been said by Muhammad, but belief is in circles that the texts were written much longer after the prophet had passed away, and were only meant to radicalize their base in order to be more powerful and fanatical in war. Most non fanatical muslims take the story of the "wives" with a grain of salt as a lot of Christians take the stories in Genesis, as a simple story and not at full face value.

In fact, the Quran speaks more to the equality of men and women before and after (kind of ironic when you actually think of sharia) death that the Bible does. It has chapters related to the subject.

Lebanon is an amazing country with beautiful scenery and cultures. It was on my list of places to visit since I was a kid because of the rich history of the region. Nobody deserves to be blown up by government ineptitude.
